I'll never be happy until I get...

None of my bucket list guitars were ever unobtanium, and I’ve checked off all the boxes.

Currently my stable includes a killer boutique 8 string, a badass Tele, a couple Strats that do modern and vintage, a PRS CE24, and a Les Paul copy that does all I want from an LP. Have a top end acoustic and mandolin, plus two pro quality basses.

The only thing left that really still pulls at me is an OG Ibanez Universe, but my RG7621 mutt is close enough.

Many years ago I knew a guy with a B3. He used to gig with it too. Got "volunteered" to help move it more than once! Pain in the posterior and the back but damn it sounded soooo good. If you were in the bar and saw Jay and the boys loading in you knew your back was in for a treat.

As for the axe in question...something like and 800 or 900 series Taylor would be pricey but doable. In fact observing the top cracks on my 310CE it might be time to retire the 'ol girl and get something for the next 20 years.

My 314CE starting breaking and sounding extra wonderful AFTER the cracks -becoming mellow and even more wonderful -I wouldn't give up on her just yet.

Still get a 814 or 914 though -Jesus those guitars are the most incredible acoustic guitar you can feel in your hand

Me too. Except I'd be perfectly happy with the Epiphone version. I'd also love a 3-humbucker Black Beauty. Again, EPI would be fine.

The new models are an incredible value. I picked up a 2020 at a GC close by last year and was floored at how well they feel. I gotta have a Gibson though. Not corksniffing, but that is the one that's been on the radar.

For me I would like to get some more artist models for Nostalgia purposes I guess. There isn't too much itching left for me to scratch. I do want to get a proper pedal steel rig to mess around with. Each time I have played one I have never sounded worse and never been happier doing so...lol.

A Gretsch High Roller not the Super Axe model but the stripped-down Chet Atkins High Roller

I feel very fortunate to have been able to acquire the guitars I truly want. I mean, there will always be stuff that pops up that I'd love to have, but I'm very satisfied with what I've got and realize how lucky I've been to be in this position.

That being said, there are two guitars that haunt me.

1) Taylor GC 12-fret in koa. I could do without the electronics and over-the-top inlays of the K22e, but seeing as how those are cheaper than a custom built one with less ornamentation, I'll probably buy a K22e some day.

2) Gibson DD-335 in pearl white. I almost bought one new when a buddy was working at GC and was going to let me use his employee discount. I didn't at the time as it was still a lot of money and it didn't seem like the best way to be deploying my dollars. I also figured I could pick one up used down the road, however, I've never been able to find one since. I have an ES-335 dot, so I don't really need one, but if I found one and it played well/sounded good, I don't know I'd be able to pass it up. Its been my white whale for almost 15 years.

In high school, I had a red BC Rich Ironbird bass (NJ series). Sold it, along with my records, when I joined the military. One day I’ll get another one...

I don't have a "grail" guitar. The fact is, all of my guitars, basses included, are way better than what I thought that I would have as a kid. Amps and speaker cabs too. I wouldn't mind having a decent acoustic again, but if I don't ever get another one, it wouldn't be the end of the world.

MM Valentine was #1 on my list for a long time. Now my holy grail guitar would be the MM Axis sport I used to own and have regretted getting rid of for years.

I'm torn:

Washburn N4 1992 Padulk Stephen Davies.
Jackson Roswell Rhodes
Original floral Ibanez JEM

The guitar I thought was my holy grail was the Ibanez HRG1SZ - the HR Giger S series Ibanez which was metal coated, I managed to get one but it never quite played how I wanted it to. M<aybe some things are better off out of reach.
