shredaholic said:Yeah, I think they're the same type of capacitor. They're made a bit differently (different size, and maybe dialectric too?), I can't remember exactly how, but all that matters is the sound - and they do sound distinctly different to the Mallories. The Mallory caps seem to have a bit more mid-spike, while the Sozo Mustard+ caps are smoother and voice the amp closer to the voicings of the vintage Marshalls. I'd say they're definately worth paying a bit extra for over Mallory caps.
The new 'handmade' Sozos are fantastic, they sound better than original Mustards (exactly the same voicing, but more harmonics and touch sensetivity etc) but at the current cost, you'd have to be quite obsessive to go for them in your PTP board.
Metroamps has em' or you can go right to the source.http://www.sozoamplification.com/ I've been toying with the idea of putting Sozo in. Everybody is raving about them. But I just put new Mallory's on this board,So I'm of the mentality`If it at broke?... Don't fix it' Once I get the amp up running I'll start entertaining the Idea.:smack:STRATDELUXER97 said:Maybe I'd like to pay the $20 or so for the std Sozos? Where are you getting them and are they like $2 a cap roughly, cause I think I've seen them?
STRATDELUXER97 said:Well....I'm not just changing it for the hell of it Chris! Tired of having to remove all the pots and lift the board up to work on the board....Plus the more you solder and unsolder, the more you risk having crappy connections between components because you burn the traces...I'm keeping this amp,so I've been wanting to do this for several years..Finally getting around to it..
I had to lift the entire board and get underneath the damn thing just to solder in 2 new 10 MFD bias caps....:smack:

shredaholic said:John (guy who owns Sozo) is apparently working on exact replicas of the caps used in old Fender amps (blue molded ones or something?). They might be better suited for a Fender circuit when they are released.
