Below is an example of the sorta vibe I'm going for. I don't want to duplicate it, just get a similar idea if you know what I mean.

Electric Wizard - Vinum Sabbathi

From what I've been told that song was recorded with Matamps, a Boss FZ-2, and an old SG that's probably stock. Again, I'm not looking to duplicate those tones, just get a similar vibe happening. It's not their best song/example, but I can't post files over 10mb so I only had a couple to choose from.

I'm looking for something that's PAF like and not too compressed. I'd rather the neck have a fat lead tone rather than a searing/screaming lead tone, but I'd also like it to be able to work as a rhythm pup under moderate gain.

For the bridge I want standard fare.....trebly cleans and decent palm mutes. I'd like it to balance the neck in tone and output so that I can use the middle position.

I'm going for a vintage 70s psychedelic/metal doomy sorta vibe. Fat,scooped, and sludgy trumps 80s clear and cutting in this case.

I'm thinking about the Duncan 59 (pair) or possibly a 59n matched with a Custom or Custom Custom. Thoughts on how well these'd work?

Lastly, I'm also considering a pair of Gibson Iommi's.....any thoughts/comparisons for these?

I'd saya 59/C5 combo would do the trick, or perhaps substituting the 59 with a PG for a bit more push in the mids.

For those really thick, fat tones, the type of pickups don't really that make that big of a difference. However, I suggest you don't go for something that is overly hot or thick. The '59 sounds perfect because it it's very open and chimey. It should help your bit fat doomy sounds stay somewhat articulate. Personally, for that type of tone, I like p-90s. They keep a certain amount of top end definition no matter how much gain you throw at them, but the mids and lows just roar.

What about the Gibson Iommi?? I am GASSING for one myself, since I've recently gotten alot more into Tony's guitar playing (as you know, with the amp).
