I'm not really a PRS guy BUT

Re: I'm not really a PRS guy BUT

I like PRS and respect them but I have never been able to bond with them. The Gibson scale length always bugs me but I can get into playing a Les Paul "okay". Doesn't seem to matter what scale length of a PRS or the neck carve it never feels at home like a strat.

Re: I'm not really a PRS guy BUT

I've played LPs, Vs, Explorers, Fire Birds, Teles, Strats, and 335s and for me it came down to how they hang on me with a strap. The most comfortable guitars I've ever played were a strat , and a Fire Bird. I've never gotten the chance yet to play a PRS single cut but I'm guessing it hangs like a LP.

A firebird is one of the most comfortable you've played???

I sold mine because I was sick of holding up the neck so that it wouldn't dive on me. Even different strap button locations couldn't fix that for me. Ugh.

PRS do balance very well as does the other stuff you've mentioned. I was really surprised just how comfortable the larger guitars like the Explorers and ES-335s felt - I ended up keeping my ES-335 as my only humbucking guitar.

Re: I'm not really a PRS guy BUT

I got to see PRS in person last night. Nice guy, very interesting presentation. I was never a PRS guy because they were out of my price range when I was shopping for solid bodies. I look at his instruments differently after seeing him sell it. Turns out we have a lot in common (musically), we both like/dislike the same things about other big name builders. And his amps sounded great too. And his acoustics. If you're on the fence, find his sales pitch on YouTube. I'm assuming its posted somewhere.

Re: I'm not really a PRS guy BUT

I have a CU24 and go through bouts, both good and bad, of OMG. One day I think it's brilliant, and then 2 days later it's a travesty.

It has literally taken me years to get the pups as close to perfect as they are. I hated the HFS but love the DD. I thought the Vintage Bass was ok, but years later I finally found the PG(b) makes it work for me.

I'm going to get the radius smoothed out to something flatter with a comparable or maybe slighty meatier fretwire size and I think it will officially be optimized for "me".
