I'm really happy with this Heritage 530

This is really one well made guitar. I let it settle down in my shop for a few days after the flight home. Gave it a good set up to my personal tastes tonight. Just about perfect workmanship (by Heritage, not my set up!).

Here's what I just don't get. This guitar is a 2009 model. I was pretty hesitant thinking something must be wrong with it to have been in stock for that long. Also figured it would have a lot of shop wear. None. Well, the dealer is more an internet dealer than a local shop. I guess for whatever reason, it couldn't find a home.

On the plus side, it's had about two years to settle down, have the lacquer cure well, blah blah blah.

I"m still a bit unsure about the PLEK thing. I'm not sure they were using them 2 years ago. Judging by how well it plays, I'm guessing maybe it has been. Not sure it really matters at this point. I did read a few places on the net that all Heritage guitars are PLEK'd. (as someone here pointed out recently)

I got the pole pieces lowered a bit on the bridge pup, balanced it out a bit better with the neck. Someone had it cranked up hot as heck.

This is my 2nd Heritage. Never bonded too well with the first one, 535 gold top with a bigsby. I guess the Bigsby bothered me. Couldn't get it to stay in tune.

this one seems to be a keeper. A great part is that I can play it late at night and acoustically it just sounds marvelous. Not as loud as a traditional acoustic, but much louder than any of my electrics. Makes for a great late nighter.

Very cool! Esp your last point! Id play more accou if it didnt wake up the family since I mostly play late at night..

I checked thier site after your purchase.. they have your guitar marked sold with at thank you to you.. I was hoping they would have more heritage single cut solids on there. only had a couple and they are expensive special editions..

hope this one continues to excite you!

Nut looks like a well cut bone nut, nothing staggered about it. The only part that I'm slightly put off about this experience is that sales guy working for the owner of the shop had me play a Heritage 535 that had been PLEK'd. I told him I couldn't tell any difference.

But it's a fine guitar and what I felt was a fair price. Luckily the owner had emailed me the price as the sales guy was trying to sell it for more.

Re: I'm really happy with this Heritage 530

Sounds a little fishy regarding the PLEK'ing part. I guess you could contact Heritage themselves and ask about the specifics of the PLEK and your guit in particular- and maybe just a nice follow up to the dealer about the guitar, then mentioning the PLEK "issue" and the salesman's statement.

At any rate, really glad it worked out for you Scott. I can relate to how frustrated you were during this process.

And it would be unfair to compare the Heritage to the Epiphone. Just not even in the same league.

Re: I'm really happy with this Heritage 530

Heritage forwarded the email to the dealer, dealer emails me back saying Heritage quit using the PLEK machine a few years ago. Lots of conflicting information out there. Strange.

Re: I'm really happy with this Heritage 530

Glad to hear you're digging it, Scott. Since adjust the poles on the pickup, how do you like them now?

Re: I'm really happy with this Heritage 530

Yep, better. Bridge is balanced with the neck on the middle position (which I like a lot). Dropped the pole pieces across the bridge pup, dropped the G on the neck. Finetuned the TonePros bridge height and intonation dead on. I'm a happy camper.

I've had Lollar P90's before. He glues the magnets on the bottom of the baseplate kinda weird. I'm a bigger fan of the Duncan vintage and antiquity P90's overall. But, with a new guitar (and these are quality pickups, no doubt), I'm leaving it alone for a while to get to know her better.

Indeed. Oh well. You snagged a cool guitar, and it has exceeded your expectations, and was set up as well as the Plek'ed version. I wouldn't lose any sleep over it :D

I might steer clear of that dealer in the future however.

Re: I'm really happy with this Heritage 530

Heritage did in fact quit using the PLEK a few years ago

The H 530 is a a great guitar....got pics?

Re: I'm really happy with this Heritage 530

I got another independent confirmation that Heritage has not PLEK'd in Kalamzoo for several years now. Dealer was shooting straight with me. I actually very much enjoyed meeting them, visiting the shop and getting a chance to plug in and test the guitar. Truly the only way to do it. Although I would not hesitate to order from them online. Considering how many 535's they had there, if I was in the market for one, I'd do the same thing and visit again to go through them all.

I'm not complaining at all about anything to do with this experience.

Even better. I reckon Heritage figured they could do as well or better a job than the PLEK machine. Glad to hear the dealer is on the up & up.

I did try a PLEK'd 535 and couldn't tell a difference between it and the 530 non-plek'd. Of course, Im just a hack. What do I know. :eek2:

Re: I'm really happy with this Heritage 530

Scott, were you the one asking around about a cheap semi-hollow a week or so ago?

If so, you chose wisely! Heritage guitars are very nice.

Re: I'm really happy with this Heritage 530

i had my strat pleked, and a friend got his gibson howard roberts pleked. I like what they did with the frets on my axe, but i still needed to set it up again to fine tune it to my preference. The gibson needed to go to a different lutier altogether - while it had been completely refretted, the profile of the frets were not even close to what the owner of the guitar wanted. He had it redone by a skilled luthier and hes happy now. The plek process still requires a skilled luthier to get the set ups as good as possible. Its not the magic "perfect set up" machine that people currently believe. In fact - from now on i will go to a luthier whose work i know and trust rather than to the plek place.

Yep, looked at several Epi's. The "cheap" part was a Fail. Did get a great guitar though. But, you get what you pay for.
