there's two amps that i want right now. the two: the mesa boogie nomad 100 and a mesa boogie heartbreaker 2x12 combo. these are all very good amps. however, i am leaning towards the mesa boogie nomad as of current. i have heard very good things about the heartbreaker as well. i may be going to my favorite guitar shop today and i'm gonna try out the heartbreaker. i have tried out the nomad the last few times i have been there, it sounds awesome. i will review both of these amps, the nomad now and the heartbreaker when i get back. the nomad has a lot of features that i'm going to go over so this could get relatively long.
features: A LOT! seperate eq, reverb, gain, volume, presence control, 3 channels, 2 modes for each channel. solo boost, master volume, master visual eq. fx loop, different ohm outputs, two 4 (full satck) and one 8 (half). this is a head. 4x6l6 or el34 in the power section, 5x12AX7 in the pre, recording out, recording silent switch, slave out, six button footswitch.
ch1: clean/pushed.
clean: well the obvious: it's clean. it really depends on how you like it, this amp will do it. you just have to tinker with it.
pushed: more of a bluesy sound, not quite distortion but not quite clean, hopefully you know what i'm talking about.
ch2: modern/vintage: distortion, the modern is more progessive and gainy while the vintage is more creamy. the vintage sounds heavenly, it really has some low end on it, roll the tone of on the neck pickup, plop a wah infont of it and play away. modern, i can't really describe it, you can get some really nice tones out of this setting.
ch3: modern/vintage, again. this is different it's more gain and balls than channel 2. it is definetely more favorite channel overall. vintage is very thick with humbuckers and single coils. and the vintage sounds gainy with both.

i realize this isn't that great of a review but hey, you get the idea
edit: there's also a half cut switch to go from 100 watts to 60

I thought you were looking for an old school/garage rock kind of tone...like an old silverotne?
i was :smack: ,
i was wondering when someone was going to catch me
then i realized that the nomad is quite a bit more versatile. i'm just a beginning guitarist (3 years) and i don't want to limit the potential styles i could go with in the future by getting an amp that has only a few sounds. if that makes sense at all.
besides i fall in love with this amp all over again as soon as i play it

The best amps, IMO, are those that have just a "few sounds" but have the right sounds. Keep it simple. A few GREAT SOUNDS is usually better than a zillion mediocre sounds, IMO.

The Nomad gets good reviews...I've never played one though.

i'm still going for the nomad because i think the nomad gets a lot of great sounds, although i haven't had many other tube amps to compare it to as i'm still on my squire affinity package :smack: but i think i can some o.k. stuff out of that. i might buy one of those tape recorders and tape myself playing! then over-analyze it, like i always do. then look around for a few dif. tube amps to compare it to as well!
by the by who voted for the heartbreaker, from here on out when you vote for something state why, unless you're a guest

lol, it'll take atleast until early june :fingersx: . i've got a deal with the devil (my dad). if i can get on the A honor roll again he'll give me $300 to compensate for what i don't have! we cut this deal when i was getting an 8% in geography, i brought it up to a mid B - 86% :)
that amp rocks so much! you can good cleans, gainy proggresive, and smooth creamy vintage all in one. i tired it out through a bunch of guitars. it makes my squier sound good. the silvertone with lipstick pickups (the kind of pickups jimmy page uses on open tunings, ie white summer and kashmir) sounded exquisite (this might by my replacement guitar believe it or not, or the jag)! i also tried out the new humbucker jaguar, i recomend it :bigthumb:
i'm also gonna try out some el34s on the heartbreaker. it's gonna be rockin'
