I'm so disapointed

I just played a Gibson Explorer RI at GC and was majorly disapointed. It felt rediculous to play, felt like it played super slow and sounded like butt... not to mention, my girlfriend told me I looked, "retarded with it," I also tried the Gothic V, which actually played better, but, the tone left a lot to be desired, but, once again, I looked retarded. The BC Rich Warlocks... they're junk now-a-days... the electronics on most of them crackled and the output jacks on a couple didn't work... I was pretty sad, cuase, all these bad-ass guitars that look so cool didn't play too great or work too great... :blackeye:

Re: I'm so disapointed

I know how you feel. I played a Gibson Firebird and man, that was a letdown. Played sooooo slow. They gunked so much crap on the fretboard you could barely lift your hands off the neck. The guitar felt nearly slid off my leg while playing sitting down and it doesn't conform to your body at all. The pickups were bland, cold and sterile. I'd rather play an Epi special than that P.O.S.

Re: I'm so disapointed

Yep. Bad news with most radical shapes, they figure they can get the younger ones who think all guitars are the same...pieces of wood with frets on them, bah, what the hell, throw in some pickups too.

WTF? "Radical" shapes aren't some new gimmick Gibson dreamed up in order to trick younger players. Most of the axes Indie described are time-tested rock machines that, whether you like them or not, are as legitimate as any Les Paul. You make it seem like they're a slab of plywood with electronics that fall out. They're functional guitars... if they're not your bag, then fine, but I hardly think Gibson's jumping on some sort of bandwagon by producing Explorers and Vs. Those guitars have been around for decades... I wouldn't count Hendrix, Johnny Winter and Albert King as "the younger ones".

Indie - It sounds like you only really tried a couple different models. Keep looking... there's nothing wrong with wanting a more extreme style guitar. There's a lot of stuff out there and you've barely seen the tip of the iceberg.

Re: I'm so disapointed

i think he was referring to the warlocks

and yeah, most people that play them get them cheap off ebay & then redo the electronics

Keep your cool...you should notice when reading my post I quote myself, "most radical shapes"...drew understood. I, myself, love Flying V's. Great axes, been gassing for one for a long time now. So just...keep your cool. No ones ripping on your sacred Explorers or Vs.

May be your girlfriend it is being a bit too hard calling you retard... ;)

Actually I do like the shape of the SG expecially if it comes in red. If you like this kind of guitar check the GUILD S-100. It is SG shaped guitar but with a bigger body. They are discotinued but they are very good quality ones, come stock with a 59 and a JB with a phase switch.

The one of the link it is from the 70's but you can found models from the 90's and the beggining of te 00's.

I have one 97' myself and I absolutely love it... :32:

I'd like one of the ESP EX-400 LTD's. I've yet to find one to play test however.
Wel i remember playing one of the lower ltd's in a local shop a good while back..A P.O.S. squier could have kicked the crap out of it for tone and playability..Although i know it was one of the lower Ltd's and the shop could ave had something to do with it too i really hated it, i didnt feel balanced either, i was playing it sitting down and it didnt feel comfortable..

Re: I'm so disapointed

Ive tried out the Gibson "faded" guitars and I thought they sounded horrible too. Tried the LP and the double cutaway. It was way too dark and toneless. And yep, I played them through multiple amps. I was bummed.

Re: I'm so disapointed

aint nothin wrong with my 76' reissue Explorer.

People always compliment me on it.

They dont play like butt either. Their necks are thin compared to some other Gibsons.

James Hetfield doesn't look retarded with his explorers.

Re: I'm so disapointed

My GF says I look fat w/ a ES-335. Mostly because they're big guitars but I tower them. Indie, check out the Epi Firebirds w/ 3 pickups, they're alot better. We had a Gibson and an Epi firebird here, and the Epi beat the Gibby to hell.

Re: I'm so disapointed

you want to look radical.. man get your ass a jackson kelly.. that is screaming metal up your ass! i want one in trans red. it just spells bad-ass

and those hammers dont look half bad. if there only wants the pickguard. imo, those ruin the look of the explorer

i liked the EPS's better when they had the original gibby ex shape.. now they ruined it. far too pointy and, just wrong somehow

Re: I'm so disapointed

hmmm... three pickups ain't me. I actually don't like the feel of an SG, too much, either. I love the way fenders and LP's feel.... but, I have to agree, I probably look pretty retarded with an Explorer or Flying V.... thehehehe....
