I'm too old to play this kinda stuff!!!!

Re: I'm too old to play this kinda stuff!!!!

LOL...you too?????

I was locked out the other night as mediaarts1....and couldn't figure it out. I haven't said or done anything "ban-able". So, I created another screenname "MediaArts" and posted a thread asking what the heck was going on??? All the mods denied knowing anything about it, and the thread got a TON of responses.

Funniest part of it...I went back to respond to some of the posts later that day, and found I was locked out again. Not sure now whether I was banned, or they're just having software issues...or what. But I've outgrown that site I think...and judging from everything I see here....this is more like home already!

Good to see you bro!

Re: I'm too old to play this kinda stuff!!!!

"Xeromus,
LOL...I KNEW you meant to say "old fart"!!!!!! LOL. By the way...I disagree on the Yngwie thing. Yes, all of his stuff is the same "speed neo-classical" stuff....but many of his songs have distinct personalities...and I love the way he uses off-timing, monster two-step bends....or subtle whammy, or whatever. I believe his phrasing is awesome. You may want to give him a few more listens....but listen very carefully to what he's doing on the fretboard. He's not just a speed guy...although his precision is of course...incredible."

eh, I'm a closet yngwie fan, much as i hate to admit it. I learned one or two of his tunes, one is "icarus dream suite", I like that tune and I'm not sure why. I'm classically trained also and can't help but admire his skill. But he's just so much fun to make fun of! I can't help but bust out laughing when I see him in a live performance.

live in Denver with G3: "Do you know what time it is?" "It's time to ROCK!!!!". He's a walking 80's metal cliche. It's so hilarious, but I must admire his undeniable skill.

I'm surprised you took the time to reply to everyone, that's really cool. You should hop in on one of these forum jams we have time to time, as a matter of fact -I- should get in on that action sometime. I missed the past ones because I wasn't able to record at home at the time.

Re: I'm too old to play this kinda stuff!!!!

From one old fart to another that was very cool indeed!! You ought to hear THIS old guy try to play fast. HA! What a friggin joke!! I got into guitar very late in life (46) so I can't really run with the pup's, so to say!! Great playing!

Re: I'm too old to play this kinda stuff!!!!

Wow, I really liked this ... more like Dokken then alternative, I would say. Your phrasing is GREAT!!!!
Would you mind if I laid something down over the ending? :)

Edit: Just listened to the second take: Your solo is way, way better.
The other guitarist is impressive, but he didn't even try to compliement what you were playing.

I'll be demoing at NAMM for all 4 days! Not too far for you.... See you there??

Wow. THAT is too cool! How've you been man??? Making babies I understand!! (Congrats!) By the way, read my response to Rainmaker above. I've been listening to your stuff a lot lately. Practically every day. And yes...I'm trying to steal a lick or two here and there. LOL! Sorry. It's just that your playing is so...well...inspiring. I even created a patch on my Zoom that's called "Lerner" (I swear to god! I should send you a picture of it!) It's a feeble attempt at recreating your sound, albeit on a Fernandes Strat through a Zoom and direct into the PC. LOL!!! We need to jam. We never have...and for as long as we've known each other, there's no excuse for that! Whaddya say???

Re: I'm too old to play this kinda stuff!!!!

Put a spin on it!
In the 'Hood local spotty juvenile not currently delinquent, he's at home so he can't be, is causing massive ear trauma to the locals. The old deaf lady down the street doesn't seem to mine apart from the brickwork coming loose.
He's trying to be Tommi Iommi but can't hit it right, wrong or anything else!
Fix problem; Overwhelming force!! Pull out D.I.Y. Strat, open all windows (this saves glaziers bills later), warm up Mesa Boogie and kick all the pedals that have gain. Doesn't matter what they are just that they have gain, the old BOSS PH2 and CH1 are along for the ride.
Detune to D, wind off all the tone, engage all three pickups (SSL1,modified SSL3 and SSL4) and blaze away with a selection of Black Sabbath's darkest's.
For the full effect have the bands vocal P.A. so you can do the Ozzy bits, problem solved fairly quickly and will remove termites in process!
Reason; the spotty one has a large amp, has yet to learn to play, will only play when parents are not at home (this can be at 1.00AM mid-week) and seems to know only three chords which seem to be E5, F5 and G#5 or variations of the above, just move the # around. I know that his amp has a headphone output because he asked about what amp to buy as he is a student and wanted to practice without disturbing his parents!
Fixed him nice and quick as the last words over the P.A. were "I can play damn loud 'cos I how to how to, now do the same without inflicting PAIN!"
Nearly did my throat in doing the Ozzy/Dio/Plant/Gillan/Dinosaur '70's scream.
OK the neighbours thought WWIII had started but my burst was only 5 minutes and spotty now practises at far lower levels and more often and is actually coming along quite nicely.
Thank heavens for small mercies and the fact that I look like the local Hell's Angels member.

Uh ... that was just weird.

Re: I'm too old to play this kinda stuff!!!!

I prefer you solo Dave. Contains everything speed, melody and phrasing. Nice. Whats in you middle position?

Re: I'm too old to play this kinda stuff!!!!

Xeromus,

LOL...a closet Yngwie fan! I can sooooooooo relate to that! And I loved reading about him being an 80's metal cliche. I took my oldest son to see him perform live locally in a relatively small venue. It was held at a small showcase-type theater, with about 300 in attendance. We were able to be right up near the stage.

Needless to say, we cracked up when he walked out on stage (that's when he was about 90 pounds overweight, but still wearing spandex. Every other word that came out of his mouth was "F*ck". I'm no prude, but it just isn't necessary, y'know?

And then...he must've had his entire stadium concert rig fully-loaded. Marshall stacks everywhere, etc. The volume was so high that my son and I wound up leaving after about 25 minutes. It wasn't just deafening...it literally beat your body up with the sound pressure!

Regarding the forum jams....I can't wait!! I'll be there!

Mike M.,

Thank you! From one old fart to another <smirk>...it's nice to see someone pick up a guitar no matter how late in life it is!! It's also nice to know that I may not be the only one suffering from tinges of arthritis in my fretting hand!!! Thanks for the welcome...and for taking a listen!

scottl,

Anaheim is only an hour and a half away from where I live, but I don't know anyone who can get me in to the show. I have a feeling I'd be like a kid in a candy store there!! How long will you be there?? Hell,...I'll drive down and buy ya dinner, but often those shows require a little schmoozing with dealers, etc. E-mail me at MediaArts1@hotmail.com if your itinerary looks open enough, ok?? It'd be great to meet you. I'll also give you my actual mailing address so you can send me a ticket to the show! I've worked many a tradeshow booth in my day! <smile>

bluey,

I tried drugs once. They weren't my thing. LOL!

keano12,

Thanks for those kind words!! I always strive to hit all three (speed, melody and phrasing)...but sometimes come up short. My middle position pickup, by the way...is just the cheap stock pickup in my Fernandes Strat copy. So is the neck pickup. The only pickup I swapped out was the Hot Rails in the bridge, and shortly before recording that little piece, I did "surgery" on the guitar by removing the tone control circuitry out of the loop entirely. I'm wired just to the volume pot and no capacitor...yikes! Thanks for the comments bro, much appreciated!

Er...ok :saeek:

Nice chops man, i liked it all the way through, but first solo was better, like others have said, better phrasing. I hope to hear more of your stuff on here if its all as good as this.

Re: I'm too old to play this kinda stuff!!!!

Forbes,

Thanks for two things.

One...also not understanding what the heck that one post was all about. LOL!!

And two...for taking a listen...and for the comments. Being new here, and with all the positive response, I'll definitely be posting more of my stuff. Keep your eyes peeled, ok? Hopefully, you guys will like some of my more laid back stuff as well. :) Again, thanks for listening and for the input!

Davey,

Do you feel as drunk as I do when I read that???? :::smirk:::

texasguitarslinger,

Thanks man! By the way....I love that avatar!!! :P

Re: I'm too old to play this kinda stuff!!!!

Wow...

Thats all I gotta say! Very nicely done there man!

The second link didn't work though so I never got to hear the other guy

Re: I'm too old to play this kinda stuff!!!!

Hello, everyone,

My name is Kent. A good forum friend of MediaArts over at G.com .

He said I should come check out the S.D. forum. So I am. :)

Here's my take at Dave's jam.
Dave is still the first half. I'm the second half.
http://www.digitalsoundplanet.com/Members/000046117_000024317.mp3
I remamed it DUELING FERNANDES's.
Because Dave used his Fernandes Strat copy. And I used my Fernandes Ravelle Deluxe with it's S.D. Jazz/JB combo. My solo is using the JB.

Take a listen and let me know what you think!

Thanks,
Kent

Re: I'm too old to play this kinda stuff!!!!

Hi Kent, and welcome. You have really nice chops, as well. I think that perhaps if you guys split it up into more than 2 halves, like maybe 4 sections, you could've had more call and response and played off of each other more. As it is now, it sounds like 2 different songs, imo.
