Re: I'm waiting.

i had one for a long time. great little box but doesnt sound very dual rec to me. warm dark liquid is pretty accurate for the solo channel

I'm at a marked (dis)advantage here, as I've never played through a Rectifier amp. I look at all these pedals and modelers, and I evaluate them by how much I enjoy playing through them, and by how closely they approximate the guitar sounds on recordings I've heard. For all I know, a Dual Rectifier sounds like a Blues Jr. with a Metal Muff in front of it.

Re: I'm waiting.

the voicing on the solo channel always seemed fatter than a dual rec, not a bad thing at all, just different

Re: I'm waiting.

I thought it sounded fatter, and warmer on top than the records I was familiar with. It didn't quite have the razor edge I was expecting. But it was organic and seductive in a way I think few pedals are.

Re: I'm waiting.

Always been curious about those pedals... Always wanted a Tri Rec, but Not as only amp.
Hardest time waiting on something?? Well, NOT something I WANT to happen, but Mom has the big C and the "news" looms ..
I usually hate the wait for gear to arrive.. always worse with a used guitar bought on ebay or something cuz you wonder if its going to be in the shape they advertised or gets wrecked in shipping..

Re: I'm waiting.

I'm afraid to have anything more elaborate than a pedal sent to me. If I bought a Mesa tube head, it would probably get triple-wrecked in shipping.

Re: NPD: Mesa/Boogie V-Twin

As long as it was insured and not something ultra rare, I wouldn't worry about it.

Re: I'm waiting.

SO......... V-Twin vs. Bottle Rocket I assume ???? :D

No, I already bought the V-Twin before I started the thread. I was just curious about the differences and similarities and intended approach of each. What was the Bottle Rocket supposed to be that the V-Twin wasn't?

Re: I'm waiting.

I only tried the V-Twin in the store when comparing it to & eventually buying, the Bottle Rocket. I kind of felt the V was more of a 2 or 3 channel preamp in the Dual Rec camp & the BR was more of an OD pedal used to compliment your current amp & pedals.

As an aside, I think Mesa went wrong with the whole "Dual Rectifier" name. The Blue Angel is a super sweet amp, but it had Dual Rectifier on the front & I think a lot of people thought "Oh, monster metal amp !" & the Blue Angel is nowhere near that. Same can kind of be said about the V-Twin, which can snarl if you want it to, but can also be tamed down if you want that.

Anyway, at the time, I wasn't really looking for the additional tones of the V & just wanted the "fatness" of the BR, which it was & then smoothed out by the tube swap.

The stock Mesa tubes aren't really my thing either...... I think I used JJs back then, which were easy to come by, but I did go thru a lot of different ones when testing. And that can be a lot of fun too, but you can easily find yourself spending a lot on those little glass beauties.

How do you like the V (& I assume it's stock tubes ?) ? If you get a BR, it would be nice to hear your comparison findings :bigthumb:

Re: I'm waiting.

I haven't plugged the V-Twin in yet. It's old; it doesn't have the factory tubes anymore. It has Fender 12AX7's. I ordered a pair of 12AX7's from Mesa, and they should arrive Wednesday. Then I will probably try it into my Hot Rod Deluxe III. Maybe I'll wait until the purple jewel lens comes in.

EVERYONE knows purple sounds best !!!! :headbang:

Oh, and start with just the v1 slot....see what changes that makes. :bigthumb:

Re: I'm waiting.

I believe it's the far left one, but if it isn't labled, check the Mesa site...they used to have manuals on there.

The manual doesn't identify V1. It does mention that replacing one or both tubes with a 12AT7 will lower the gain substantially without obliterating the basic voice.

Which one's V1?

Mesa identifies V1 as the left tube and says it's for the Blues and Solo channels. V2 is on the right; it's for the Clean channel. But since it uses only one tube at a time, I hesitate to think of the V-Twin in terms of other tube circuits where V1 is always in the signal path. It looks like we're free to roll clean and dirt independently, which I think is sweet.

Gonna start with a new pair of Mesa 12AX7's which should be arriving directly.

Good info........get to try it yet ?

Who, me?

I tried it through headphones to make sure it works. With the Fender tubes. I never tried my old V-Twin with headphones, so I don't have a direct point of comparison. It does sound darker and drier than the old one did into my Marshall.
