... Someone please explain to me, as I just can't grasp the concept, why this is considered a working man's guitar:

Usually you pay that kind of money NOT to play the guitar, but then again, this ax is hardly in virgin condition. Is this really and investment to someone?

New body and neck-- other than that, 100% stock. :laugh2:

while i dont see anything wrong with if you just bought it like any regular used guitar.........$65,000!?!?!?!?!??!?!?!?!?! you gotta be f*cking kidding me. thats rediculous. imagine if it didnt have the replacement neck and hardware, itd be $2,000000!

Seems to be a huge difference between those who truly value things and those seeking to put a price tag on that "value"....

My '56 LP Junior is worth substantially less than a "pristine" original..... with one very large difference...it's not for sale for any price, meaning it's value to me is truly "priceless"...

From a "collector's" point of view, mine has been "butchered", restored and worth almost next to nothing...(i did almost pull it out of a dumpster!... previous owner thought nothing more than....."toss the old POS"....luckily I didn't!)....so why not play the thing for all it was really made to be!...

To me, it is one of (if not) the finest guitars I've ever owned...retail value doesn't come close to actually fretting Brazillan rosewood and actually playing/using something that's older than I am....

Actually, the funny thing is, based on the latest Gibson list prices, you can buy a brand new Les Paul for exactly the same amount these days.

You kidding me? Working man's guitar? Maybe if that 'working man' was employed by Donald Trump himself, I could see that being a possibility.

Rediculous. Absolutely, completely rediculous.

I felt really bad shelling out cash for a used LP but dang, that's...for lack of a new word: "ridiculous". Who determines these prices? The seller? the collector? the apprasier?

Well, it's the old joke... New body, new neck, new pickups... everything else is 100% stock.. (I guess it's in the delivery... :burnout: ).

More power to the person who can find a buyer, I say. But from where I stand, there are SO many good existing examples; hence it is NOT a good investment guitar unless every existing Les Pual somehow spontaneously imploded from the weight of their price tags.

Jeff Seal, I'm in 100% agreement with you! My real players are old Fenders that are NOWHERE near stock. I do have a few old guitars in near mint conditon, but I still use them. Rather foolish to own a collectible guitar and never enjoy it. If it's truly a collectible, a few finger smudges should be acceptable, but that's me... If I owned a '59 Les Paul standard, I'd probably gig with it (well, maybe just play Jimmy Page's birthday party... :) )

Regardless of what people have to say about vintage guitars, I prefer them. You'll also notice that a lot of people who rail against Gibson grow up, get jobs and then buy Gibsons. I've gotten rid of most of the "vintage" guitars I've owned, but the first real "vintage" guitar is the same one I've had for over 13 years. All the pristine Juniors, all the delicious Specials, all the clay dotted Jags and Jazzmasters...

What stays?

A 1959 LP Special that's been hacked apart. At some point someone thought it would be a really good idea to rout out for humbuckers on this guitar. So right now, the entire section of wood between the bridge and the fingerboard has been replaced. Nothing is "1959" on this guitar except the wood it's made of and the back control plate. I love it like you woudn't believe and it fits me like a glove.

Who would ever feel bad about buying a used guitar? I'd rather have a guitar that's been used than worry about where the first ding is going to come from.

Prices are determined by who's going to pay them. A few years ago I got my 58 LP Special for 3K. Last year I decided to sell it, and saw that minty 57 and 58 Specials were going for upwards of 9K. Mine wasn't minty so I sold it for 5K. I would have liked to have listed it for 15 and seen who would have bought i :) t- and that price would be precedent.

Folks you need to read just a little more carefully. It didn't say it IS a working man's guitar, only that it has "the LOOK of a working man's guitar".

That fact is undeniable. It has been around the block once or twice since 1960 and certainly was a working man's guitar for its first 10 years at least. And it's in remarkable condition considering all that.

1958-1960 sunburst Les Pauls are highly prized not only because they are old and sound really good, but because there weren't very many made, about 1,500, many of which probably have been destroyed or had woodwork done on them for mods that reduce their value to vintage guitar lovers.

Besides, if you think $65k is bad for a 1960, try a 1959...

To me that implies a player guitar.

It's worth whatever you want to pay for it. But this guitar gives you an idea as to what is really left out there.
