In need of a second guitar

Re: In need of a second guitar

I'm not sure why you'd want a semi-hollow either if you're worried about it getting damaged. I have heard a lot of good things about Ibanez hollow, and semi-hollow guitars, but I've never played one.

I'm kind of slowly working up GAS for an AF75 or AF95

I always have a Tele or a parts Tele leaning up against a chair neer my computer, and my dogs & my neighbor's dogs have always had a habit of crashing through here, and knocking it over. It used to piss me off, but it never hurt the Tele. Now I just set it back up and I'm satisfied with them being startled by a falling guitar.

Telecasters are great for taking abuse. They don't sound like a semi-hollow, but you don't have to worry about them. Get a Squier Tele, and you probably won't even care if it gets munched.

I'm gonna say DOT studio. $299, cheaper used. You will have to PLAY a bunch to find the right one - but, that said, you can find a tasty feeling/sounding one. Not that much will sound good through a 5 watt amp...

Or one of the Ibanez semi's - again, play a bunch...look for used.

Exactly. I would go for a 200$ Squier Standard Strat with HSS or HH pickup configuration. If the neck gets broken, the most likely injury if its knocked over, it can be replaced cheap.

Avoid the Affinity line of Squiers, they are 100% crap in my experience. A lot of students at the high school end up with them after they buy one of the beginner kits. Theres not much I can do to make them sound or play well.

Yamaha Pacifica. One of the lower ones of those will sound and play great, unrivalled bang for the buck on those. They take a serious beating too.

Re: In need of a second guitar

Snag a Peavey Patriot off the "bay". They can be had for a bill or two, and you get solid MIA construction. Hard to beat for the price. Hard to beat, period.

I'm with Artie here. Grab a MIA Peavey like a Patriot, off ebay. You'll be surprised :)

Re: In need of a second guitar

Thanks for all of the suggestions from everyone.

I think I have found something I can use. I remembered my brother had a MIC no name flying V he never has used. It needs some work to get it playable, but nothing major.

Yes much different from a semi-hollow, but I can't argue with free. I'll save getting a semi-hollow when I decide to get another nice guitar.

Thanks again.
Eric
