in need of heavy blues pickup

I want hear what everyone thinks is the best neck humbucker for heavy blues and I would like details like string pull and clarity under distortion

Re: in need of heavy blues pickup

Often a very low output wind will give you the best results....especially with drive. I'm picturing you playing Gary Moore style here - he used PAF strength pickups later on. Any of the Duncan offerings will work, you just need to figure out the natural tone of the guitar/amp combo so the pickup will give the best results......all the different models mimic subtly different voices.

Re: in need of heavy blues pickup

Depends on the guitar... I have a 59 set in my strat and it does blues rock/heavy blues/classic rock better than most guitars. Lots of clarity and bite even with a good amount of distortion.

If you are looking at a SG, I would also recommend the 59. An LP, maybe a Phat Cat with an A5/A3 mag combo.

Good luck.

Re: in need of heavy blues pickup

well I use a Kramer assault 220 (mahogany body & neck ebony fretboard maple top w/floyd rose) and I run it through a gibson 6 amp if that helps

Re: in need of heavy blues pickup

Domingerpickups .com have great pickups they are new and have great prices,I got the raw model.and its the most powerful humbucker I have ever owned,

Re: in need of heavy blues pickup

I have great luck with AIIP, Pearly Gates neck and I really like a 59b in the neck position. I have several guitar with 59b in the neck. Usign the bridge model gives just a little more "smoky" blues tone. String pull is minimal unless you have it adjusted way too high..

Any if Duncan's PAF style pickups will do what you are looking for. I'm partial to the 59 neck. I think it's just about the perfect neck pickup- many will disagree. But from my experience, it will do dirty, gritty heavy blues with no problem.

I like '59N's and have a few, but they can be bassy in some woods and guitar designs, LP's and 335's in particular. That can offset by either a mag swap or lowering the PU and raising the pole pieces.

The 59b in the neck is really great and bluesy,

Screamin Demon in the neck is amazing for blues or just about anything,

Pearly Gates is wonderful in the neck if you like a bit of sizzle with your blues,

P-90s are gorgeous. (There are many available in humbucker size...GFS Mean 90 is really good and very inexpensive, Phat Cat is a good P-90 but needs a mag swap to keep from getting too muddy in the neck).

I can certainly see why people call it the "Alnico Pro 2". It just seems to roll off the tongue and it sounds right. However there is no such pup called "Alnico Pro 2".

I happen to know of a pup made by Seymour Duncan called the "Alnico 2 Pro". Perhaps that's the one you are referring to.

Good lord, what are you, a school teacher!

Re: in need of heavy blues pickup

I have a PATB-3 in the bridge and I run it through a gibson 6 (5y3 rectifier 6v6GT x2 6sl7GT power tubes and a 12ax7 preamp tube)

In my RG570, I have a PATB3 in the bridge, a Dimarzio VV Blues in the mid and a Duncan 59b in the neck. Goes from metal to sweet blues and everything in between with that axe.

SFW,
You ever try a 59b in the neck?
