*****in New Guitar Day!!!!

Re: *****in New Guitar Day!!!!

Caparison are a boutique company from Japan. Think it was the guys from the Jackson custom shop over there in the early 90s that started Caparison.

The luthiers from Caparison were workers in the Jackson Japan factory and once FMIC bought Jackson in 2001 they did their own thing. In fact one of their early works as a group was the Jackson Falcon which the Caparison Horus model of theirs shares many many attributes. It's a great company that's for sure!

Jackson contracted with Chushin Gakki beginning in 1986 to build the Charvel Model series guitars, followed by the Jackson Pro series in 1990. The contract expired at the end of 1995 and the factory declined to renew it; Caparison was born shortly thereafter.

Wait wait.... wasn't this the story behind the unlicensed "Jackson Stars" brand?

And wasn't Caparison positioned as boutique from the get go, far upmarket from the upper middle class mass production that was Charvel and Jackson MIJ?

I was off a few years but I was going off of memory.
There's some good reading here for anyone interested, unless that's where you got your info and saw it already?

Some cool reading there. I had an early 90s Dinky XL Professional 20 years ago and it was my first shredder. I really learned my style on that. It destroyed my at the time band mates RG550 and he was always secretly jealous of it. Then the XL got swiped when some scum sucker broke into our van one night. Only paid £300 for it back in 1999. Thinking about it this Caparison feels much like that old Jackson. Same pickup configuration, same bound neck feel with jumbo frets.
