In praise of the OD3......

I haven't used this in a few years but tonight I couldn't be bothered to take my amp to our rehearsal place and they have tons of amps anyway. Threw the OD3 in my bag on impulse. After refusing a malfunctioning AC30 and a Fender Ultimate Chorus they wheeled in an Orange AD30 half stack.

What a nasty, fuzzy sounding amp. No punch or guts but plugged in the OD3 and got some great sounds. It's a real good all rounder OD with more gain and level on tap than I need and an effective tone control. It's saved my bacon in the past so I'll never get rid of it.

Re: In praise of the OD3......

It's been my main OD for the past few years and has bumped off Lovepedals, Fulltones and old Ibanez's

Re: In praise of the OD3......

LOLZ, I've tried to tell people that its a really good pedal, I guess because it doesn't cost at least $200 new it sucks.

I use a rat for the type of sounds I was using it for, so I sold mine, but yeah, it's a great pedal.

Re: In praise of the OD3......

Got one from Izzo, great pedal but sold it because I liked my Pork Loin a little better for what I needed.

Re: In praise of the OD3......

I had an OD3 for ages and really liked it.

I cut back on alot of my pedals though and it came down to either the OD3 or my old SD1 and I found myself preferring the slightly less smooth sounding SD1 so I sold the OD3.

I'm surprised you found the AD30 to be nasty and fuzzy sounding. I had a single channel 1 as my main amp for years and really liked it for the music I was doing at the time.

Different tastes Craig, I seem to remember you weren't that taken with the Cornford Roadhouse and I love it. There's a lot of folks that think today's Marshalls sound good................

I really wish you'd put your Splawn on a bigger cab. It just looks WRONG.

Re: In praise of the OD3......

Low and behold, I think I've finally found something that works better then the OD-3!!!

I just got a used DS-1 from a forum member and I've clipped D4 and D5 off the circuit board.
Amazing! Little less gain then stock but much more open and none of the buzzy mids of the stock pedal.
Works well as a clean boost, OD or distortion when maxed.

Definitely worth trying as DS-1's are a dime a dozen these days!!!

Oh yeah, I realise that completely. It's just not an amp I've seen too many say sounded completely horrid! :D

How's about this?

Better fit cab wise? The 1x12 in my avatar is a perfect fit for my SLO clone than the Splawn, but it's an old pic.

Re: In praise of the OD3......

I don't use mine often but I also have never been able to bring myself to unload it over the years. It is the only drive pedal Boss ever made that I got along with.

Re: In praise of the OD3......

Much better Craig but the Matamp on the top is a little off-centre. If you could just move it maybe half a centimetre to the left............

Re: In praise of the OD3......

great stand alone bluesy OD.
i´m digging how it sounds boosting my YD RAT.
fattens up the sound and adds dynamics.

Re: In praise of the OD3......

Love my OD3 one of the best overdrive pedals out there ! very durable and cheap, it has bumped countless pedals off my board
