Hi, For the last 6 years I've been playing the more traditional aspects of Metal (mainly Heavy, Power and everything around that including NWOBHM) using my trusted Mexico Fender Standard Stratocaster (2000 edition).
For reference let's say Iron Maiden (for starters), the '80s Helloween, Savatage, Riot, Heavy Load, Tokyo Blade, Shok Paris, Fifth Angel etc.
However I love the sound of my Strat (especially after a major job done where I replaced the entire pickguard with everything on it) playability is a different matter.
I need 24 instead of 21 frets and a neck that will allow for easy play on all registers, especially the upper ones and
I need a free-floating instead of dive-only tremolo where after one use won't require to re-tune the guitar!
With that in mind (and a budget of about 600 or so euros cash, that goes at about 750 euros list price) I start looking for a second guitar to complement my beautiful Strat.
So far I have come up with 3 candidates, what I need from you is some info on these as well as suggestions on other that I should check out.
Candidate no 1 and the less expensive of the group is the Schecter Omen-6 FR Extreme which at about 380 euros (list price 450) and with a push/pull for hum-to-single coil is a real winner for it's mid-to-low category.
Candidate no 2 is the flagship of Ibanez's RG Tremolo series, the Ibanez RGT42DX for I'm guessing about 600 euros (730 list price).
Candidate no 3 is the well known Jackson DK2 Dinky. Actually, although I can't seem to find any other version at Jackson's web page this one is way too cheap at about 590 list price to be the Pro Series version.
Plus the specs say Duncan Designed pus instead, the link for the local dealer can be found here although the page is in Greek (since I'm from Greece).
Still, all specs are in English so there shouldn't be a problem, however you can use an on-line web-page translator if you'd like.
So, any input on the matter would be greatly appreciated.
One important note however is that at this point I'm looking for good playability, good woods and materials, bodywork and craftsmanship.
Tone comes second at this point since after getting used to the instrument I'll more than likely pay another 500 euros or so to make it sound the way I want it to too!
Thanks in advance!
