In the market for a Wah pedal

I've been thinking about buying a wah pedal. This would be my first pedal purchase ever but not my first time using one. What would you guys recommend as a decent to great wah but not too expensive. My budget is 180 but I would like to be close to 120 maybe 150. What makes a good wah pedal?

What G175 said. It's an excellent wah, it just didn't work out with my rig. I wish it did - the selectable inductor was a really nice feature.

I've had my Crybaby 535Q w/ Fasel for almost 10 years and it's been awesome.

If I had to get a new one I'd probably go for a slightly simpler version like the 95Q or the Classic. If I went with a signature model I'd probably go for the Bonamassa or Cantrell models.

Crybabys just sound right to me so I tend to stick with those. Although I have tried the Morley Tremonti wah and liked it a lot as well.

Didn't know there was a joe S model...but i did use a pro series II Morley for many years. Thats a great wah too. Simple but effective. really good buffer in it too.

From the clips I've looked at I like the CAE wah along with the cry baby classic. I think I might go with the CAE wah if I can find one used.

It may be a little above your budget but I really like the RMC-5 Wizard Wah.

My biggest beef with wahs is that they take out too much low end volume and tone at the heel position and the Wizard Wah does not do that as much. So you get this big, throaty wah sound. It comes at the expense of top end sweep although it has a rocker switch to shift to a higher range.

For me it's the best sounding wah I've used including various crybabies, a Vox, and a Fulltone Clyde Deluxe (which is also a great wah).

I looked at the RMC and found myself liking the RMC 6 Fire Wheel better along with the RMC picture Wah but I keep coming back to the CAE wah for its versatility and price.

I am not familiar with the CAE wah, do you have a link to it? I'm curious...

I liked it a lot, it has three settings - Shaft (high freq) Jimi (mid freq) and Wacked (low). I ran mine on Wacked. One thing I will miss about the Fulltone is that it has an LED indicator when it is engaged which is really nice onstage. I liked it a lot but I wanted something with still more bass response. It also takes up a bit more space on a board because of the knobs on the side. Very durable and so far as I know it is true bypass. Pretty quiet too, which the vox and crybabies were not. I think it is really versatile and well made, I just had a specific sound I was going for that the RMC-5 had.

From what you said earlier you don't have any other effects in your chain right? So I am assuming you are going straight in to the amp. What amp & guitar are you using?

For the $ that you want to spend you could get a good used Vox 847 and mod it to your liking. Or save a few $ more then by either the Fulltone Clyde Deluxe or the RMC. Out of the RMC's I like the picture wah or the Joe Walsh signature wah but much of this is what sound you are looking for. When I think of Wah tones I immediately hear "Voodoo Child , Rainy day dream away or Tales of Brave Ulysses" These are the tones I think sound best but everyone has their own opinion of what sound they are after

My amp is a Blackstar HT 40 combo and a custom built super strat with Floating floyd and big brass block, Alder body, Maple cap, Blood wood neck and finger board. The pups are A C8, Lil Screamin Demon, PGn. I like the CAE for its versatility but as for how I want a wah to sound I like the standard Crybaby as well as the RMC Picture wah they have the quack I like and the full range sweep.

About a year ago I visited a good friend(my best friend actually) in San Diego. His son has been playing for a few years and is now playing in a band. He was talking about getting a Wah. When I got home I was browsing through either Facebook or Craigslist and found a used Vox 847 for $20.00 in perfect working order. I sent hin that and two overdrives so he can pick and choose. Point being is check around and find the sound you want then look used. You may not find one for $20, but I have seen them constantly for $40. that's a pretty good price for a well made wah pedal. Then if you arent happy with it you can mod it to your liking...

it depends what kind of wah player you are. I love wah, but hate fiddling with knobs. i was excited to try the CAE but when i finally did I couldn't be bother by trying out all the knobs and trying the 2 inductors and all that. The fulltone clyde is about as much as I can handle. For me, the crybaby classic is $99 well spent on a wah.

Well im still looking mostly in the used market. I did find a good deal for a RMC Picture wah for like 100 so yea I just have to look and wait but the crybabies and voxes usually go for around 40 maybe 20 or 30 used.
