The large Fender with the bullet truss is perfection for me.

Funny that nobody mentioned the Brian Moore headstock. 4/2 looks cool, especially with the contoured route on one side and the logo along the edge.

+1 on the Brian Moore

The 4x2 tuner layout works really well in terms of a straight string path from the nut to the tuner, and it eliminates the need for string trees by increasing the break angle over the nut in comparison to a straight-6 layout.

Here's my personal take on a 4x2 that may look slightly familiar ;) but is NOT for sale:

I'm also attaching the weirdest headstock design I ever saw. It's 3x3, but the tuners are all wound the same way and it's got nice, straight string paths.

The wide, big cornered, Gibson "open book" headstock.

Also, the classic big bell bottom style "Jimi Hendrix" Strat headstock.

:D

The PRS is funny....I Played a $3000 Custom 22 and I didn't see all the hype in it? I'd rather have 2 nice strats, over 1 PRS axe,but it was just me I guess? I was weened on Fender and Gibsons and it's going to make me very partial..The PRS stuff seems to have a stereo typing of metal style players...I can only think of a few Rock players that use em...Alex Lifeson,Santana,Schon,David Grissom, and then I draw blank?

Yep...I think the same thing!

i like the large guild headsock that is on their jazz guitars, very nice, i like the smaller ones too, but they don't look as elegant. As for the others, i think my favorite headstocks are old small fenders, still nice and simple.

I was trying to get a bit more elegant, Strat-like feel to it. The neck to headstock transition is copied from a Strat and is different from the E.B. So is the curl or whatever you want to call it at the top. Also, it's a got a special set of staggered Sperzel locking tuners with the D & G strings shortest, B & A medium, and both E's tallest. (No, it's not the same as a regular 3x3 set because the G string is on the top side of the headstock.)

I'm gunna go with Ibanez or Jackson. The pointed Jackson head looks kinda sinister and abit evil... which is exactly what I want when I'm playing metal.

My Peavey Wolfgang has a real nice dinky little headstock, black with the chresent shaped carve out of the top, thats really nice.

But the classic pre CBS strat its just a rock and roll icon, i love it.

um, add Ted Nugent, John McLaughlin, Jimmy Herring, Dave Navarro, Al DiMeola, Brad Whitford and Steve Stevens. there's a big list at the PRS website. Also James Brown's guy used one at the gig I saw, and sounded great.

I know what you mean, though. PRS have a sort of public perception of being a 'numetal' guitar. Which is weird to me, 'cos I remember them being endorsed pretty much only by classic rockers in the 80s.

The thing with the PRS is it's very much a middle ground between gibson and fender, though tilted in the gibson direction quite a bit. I'm very much a fender man, but I love my 'neither fish nor fowl' PRS. Sometimes right in the middle is the sound you want. And the quality is terrific, something you can't gaurantee from the other two brands in question.

Now, to answer the question: for me, a tie between the 50s strat stock and the prs headstock. Special nostalgia mention to the first of the pointy end kramer stocks.
