Incoming 7 string pickups (Fluence)

I’ve had various 7 string guitars over the last 20 years, but haven’t tried nearly as many pickups as I have for regular guitars.

Caught a deal on a Fishman Javier Reyes set (the dude who’s not Tosin in Animals as Leaders). The guitar in question is an Ibanez mutt. Old MIJ RG7621 neck, 7321 body, which is probably basswood. The current pickup is a Duncan Designed HB-102, which sounds awesome. I never loved the Jazz in a 6, so I was looking for a DD ‘59, but stumbled on the Fluences for like half of what they typically cost.

The Ibanez currently is wired pickup straight to Jack, so I’m starting from scratch. Ordering an Oak Grigsby 5 way to sort of copy the scheme in my Fluence-loaded 8 string. It’s a lot more complex than I’ve ever liked, but it goes:

1 bridge
2 split coils in parallel
3 both humbuckers
4 neck split
5 neck

The push pull adds voice 2 for the humbuckers, so it’s a total of 8 different sounds. Like I said, way more complex than I’ve ever really liked, but they’re all awesome on the 8.

The Javiers are a little mellower than the Tosins, so even with the identical schematic, it should be a different flavor than the 8.

Just ordered a switch, and kind of called an audible at the last second. I got to thinking about how much I love the series single/split tones in my PRS and Tele, so I went for a 4 way like my Tele has. This means the volume and tone will be push/pulls, which is a little clunkier than the setup in my 8, but I think it'll be worth it for that series split tone.
