Incoming Ibanez day! (Damn you @Ascencion!!!)

Re: Incoming Ibanez day! (Damn you @Ascencion!!!)

Awesome! That’s great to hear.
I’ll will be interesting to see if that middle pickup is in the way...
Most all of my guitars, with a couple of exceptions have been HH.
It's mounted low enough out of the way that it doesn't get in the way. The way the middle pickup sometimes does on my Stratocasters. FWIW the edge pro is the best trem I've had too, love it to death

Re: Incoming Ibanez day! (Damn you @Ascencion!!!)

All middles are in my way always, until I lower them completely down out of their usable range and leave them out of the new circuit (after changing bridge and/or neck).
I think it depends on a person's hand size and playing posture to some degree. Middles are just exactly where my picking naturally is and I hate that, plus I hate the tone from picking directly over a pickup.

The sustain block screws shouldn't ever be a problem unless one is flipping blocks, in which case it can't hurt to upgrade if you have it off anyways.

Years ago I had a Washburn with a middle pickup. I ended up taking it out at one point.
I’m going to try my best to gel with this one as is so I’ll give it some time before I do anything rash!!

I thought the paint job was pretty sweet.

Out of the 100+ guitars I have owned, my RG1570 is my favorite of all time. You're gonna love it man.

Did you keep the original pickups or swap to something different?

Re: Incoming Ibanez day! (Damn you @Ascencion!!!)

congrats!!! awesome finish!! I had an old RG570 and regret selling it...

Re: Incoming Ibanez day! (Damn you @Ascencion!!!)

Since the Edge Pro dilemma has been brought up already, as a former RG1550 owner I'll tell you that if you can, swap the studs for locking equivalents ASAP.
Mine refused to return to pitch regardless of setup, springs, string gauge, lubrication or just about everything I threw at it.
In my experience it's not a very reliable unit and I'll never own an Edge Pro loaded guitar again.

Here's a bit informative article on the subject:

I hope this helps you get many years of music and joy out of your RG1570.

Any idea as to who sells these replacement studs?

I’m assuming you just replace the screw-in stud piece and not the insert that is actually embedded in the wood?

Re: Incoming Ibanez day! (Damn you @Ascencion!!!)

I just saw that they can be ordered through the ibanezrules site too....
Thanks for the info!!

Re: Incoming Ibanez day! (Damn you @Ascencion!!!)

IMO locking studs won't make any difference at all,,,,,,,except when the bridge is off they won't get turned unintentionally.

When the bridge is on and under the tension of the strings the studs won't get turned one bit.

The tiny bit of play you feel in the non-locking studs (which is what OFR uses btw) when the bridge is off won't result in more or less wiggling of the inserts themselves in the wood when wanking the bar.

The inserts are/can be the problem with basswood bodies, and wild whammy doesn't help, and neither does bigger/tighter strings.

Mine have no issues at all at this point, but I would not be surprised to see the inserts get some play over time.
I keep mine at Eb with 10-50 slinky strings so there isn't super high tension,,,,,,but i still go wild on the bar now and then.
Basswood bodies just are not really made for those inserts. Changing the studs won't help tuning stability/return at all IMO.

edit; They are better though. I'd prefer to have locking studs on every guitar just so they can't be moved when doing maintenance.

Yeah, I’m getting way ahead of myself.
I just need to get the guitar and play the crap out of it and THEN make any assessments if needed.
Thanks for getting my head screwed back on correctly!!

I've had it about a year and it still has the original pickups in there. IMO they're quite good, but not up to Seymour Duncan quality of course. I'm a Duncan addict and all my other guitars sport Duncans, I simply haven't changed them yet because I can't decide what to put in there! But I've got it pretty much narrowed down to a full shreds set + ssl-6 in the middle, so I'll be making that change in the next few months. I will definitely keep the originals though, they're pretty cool

Cool! Be sure to let me know how they work out for you.
I have a JB that’s waiting for a guitar to be put into....unfortunately it’s standard spaced but I might try it out anyway at some point.

I always think this is the best, sane way to do it, although as guitarists, we tend to search for 'more better' than what we have- or what we are getting!

Very true. And tbh, the more I research this particular trem the more varied the reviews are. The consensus seems to be that a well set up guitar/trem system seems to be trouble free...the seller listed that this guitar was recently setup so I’ll roll with that for now.
