Incoming NAD!!! Mesa content... EXCITED

So just 3 short years ago, I bought my first tube amp.

Yeah it's hard to believe I played a Crate as halfstack and a peavey bandit for the 9 years before that.

Any how I'll be getting a Mesa Roadster shipped to me next week!! I am extremely excited as this is one of the amps I have always wanted. Plus onboard reverb and 4 channels, multiwatt on each channel, my pedalboard may in fact get smaller!! This should be a great addition to my Stiletto!!

Any tips on these amps I should keep in mind?

Only one tip comes to mind, and that is to remember to stop playing long enough to eat, excrete and sleep during that first week. A good player keeps themselves healthy. :)

congrats! new or used? I would get a cover so the tolex does not get ripped on that $2k monster.

the power scaling is awesome so that you can practice at lower volumes with good tone with the band.

the cab/speakers makes a big difference in tone too for that versatile roadster. cheers :)

Congrats (from a fellow Mesa junkie). That's a top of the line rig!

Re: Incoming NAD!!! Mesa content... EXCITED

Yeah it's a used 2012 Roadster. Getting it in a trade next week!! Looks like new with no tears! My 2004 Stiletto looks brand new. No tears and was babied!! I have a Recto 2-12 so I hope it likes V30's lol!

Re: Incoming NAD!!! Mesa content... EXCITED

Most amps, especially Mesa's like V30's, so you're covered there. Although, I've been really eyeballing the Creambacks lately though :smokin:

Re: Incoming NAD!!! Mesa content... EXCITED

Congrats!

If the tube rectifier setting sounds too loose for ya, throw some GZ34/5AR4 rectifiers in it. I did that with my Triple Rec and they're nice and tight. Don't be afraid to try some EL34s in it down the road. Threw a set in mine and they really tightened the bottom end.

very cool, nice trade. I like those recto cabs for mesas and orange. its used for only one year, nice find. I would still have a tech look that used gear over cause I am not technically savvy and that might save any probs in the long run.

MESAs love V30s .... You will be happy. Revalving a dual rec is a major pain in the butt ... So many tubes!! Enjoy!

The owner has it at consignment at that music shop in Kansas. He is gonna have the tech once over it before he ships it out!

Yeah I agree on that TO, but my stiletto has gotten me used to that.

I did the same w my dual recto. Mesa will fuss at you about it and tell you it will fry your amp, but I honestly liked the sound better and I have had no problems with it so far. The stock rectifier tubes made the amp squishier than I care for.

Re: Incoming NAD!!! Mesa content... EXCITED

That's why they have a switch on the back for either Tube or SS rectifiers.

Anyway, congrats!

Hmm, I couldve sworn in the manual I downloaded it said that you could use GZ34s.

They recommend running EL34s with that switch set for tube rectifiers, because the silicon diodes pump up the bias fairly high.

Hm, maybe it is OK for Roadsters or triple recs then. I think Mesa does sell this type of tube on their web store so they must support it on some of their amplifiers, maybe just not the one I have.

Re: Incoming NAD!!! Mesa content... EXCITED

Great amps. Best advice I can give you is to read the Owner's Manual thoroughly. I print a copy of the Manuals for my amp and keep them in a binder.

And don't hesitate to call Mesa's Customer Support guys if you need help.

Enjoy!
