Incoming NGD! Epiphone Alex Lifeson Les Paul

Recessed Floyd on a LP with a very regal looking top,
It's a gamble with Epi (and most mid-priced guitars, TBH).

Unless they specify a "AAA" or something high-grade figured veneer, you can bet 90% of the guitars you encounter at stores have a washed out poorly figured top.

Sorta like the guitar in that link you shared. That doesn't look very good to me, TBH, but that's JMO, and maybe it's just the pics not making it justice.

My 1959 has a pretty cool uniformly figured flamed maple top. I think they call it "curly" rather than "flamed" then the flame is that tight. It's supposed to be AAA. It looks cool, but it certainly looks nothing like what you see in high-end guitars.

IMO, this appears to be one of those finishes that doesn't rely on having a really nice top. Its quilted red with binding.

My only concern would be that the top is finished much darker than the photos. Alot of the cheap chinese guitars with wood tops are finished very dark and need direct sunlight to look like the pics.

I ordered and returned a $1500 BC Rich several years ago from Red Blanket Guitars. The guitar came in used condition with scrapes and scratches on the body (which was the reason I returned it) and it had a pretty bad neck, but it looked nothing like the pictures he had taken of it, which is why I didn't order a replacement.

We have entered the era of instagram guitars, complete with filters to make them actually look good.

I like solid finishes that are coordinated well with the hardware. One nice thing about solid finishes is that the wood doesn't drink the top coat, and even 30 years later the finish is still super smooth and looks like new.

I don't think the nuances of a real wood top even show up in a performance setting.

Epiphone has always surprised me in their quality, tuning stability ( over a Gibson), playability and tone .

I think the Alex Lifeson LP has a Fishman Piezo system on the Floyd Rose. You'll definitely have hard time putting that guitar down .... I know , that I would !!!!

CONGRATS !!!!

This one does not have the piezo like the older model Alex Lifeson Les Paul but it does have a lot of switching options.

I have an older Epiphone Les Paul Custom I believe Korean made with the Seymour Duncan Hot Rod pickup set and a 1998 Gibson Les Paul Special P-100 so it'll be interesting to hear the contrast in sound.

My other guitarist and I's Epiphone Alex Lifeson Les Paul Custom Axcess guitars have been shipped!

Guy's I'm so sorry I haven't got to do a review of the new Epiphone Alex Lifeson Les Paul Custom Axcess and here I had a 3 day weekend too and I didn't even touch the guitar at all! :disappoin

I got a lot of stuff going on with me and it's been going on for a long time now, I haven't been able to get to sleep until extremely late, I don't know if I have sleep apnea or what and on top of that severe anxiety attacks :(
