Incoming NGD

Just nabbed a PRS SE Korina. I always likd the look of these and hope it plays just as well. Thinking ahead and considering upgrading pups to Seths, SNS set or perhaps C/59 bridge, if the stock pups dont do it for me. I hope to have it within the week. Listing pic:

Re: Incoming NGD

I've played a couple of these and they were definitely worth a lot more than they cost. Congrats.

Re: Incoming NGD

Weren't incoming NGD's banned? sure I recall someone lose their erm bananas over them?

Re: Incoming NGD

Congrats! I really like how mine plays and sounds acoustically... now we just need to find pickups that do them justice. :)

Re: Incoming NGD

SNS neck with 59/Custom in the bridge.

Nice catch. I had one of those for a while. Wish I still had it but needed to let it go. I kept it stock for a while until I could figure out if they needed to be changed. After some time I went with DiMarzio Air Classics. They sounded great in that guitar. Enjoy it.

Following its cross country trip (CA->NY) this was originally scheduled for delivery Fri 11/18, then Thurs, and it was just updated to Wed / tomorrow... Wooh!

Re: Incoming NGD

Congrats! it'll play well but I bet the pups will be swapped

It has arrived and is in great shape. With some of its new family:

Pups as expected will be removed like impacted wisdom teeth. I have a covered Seth bridge (zebra under the cover) and will get either a matching SL neck, or perhaps a 59N and swap in an A4, or SNS. Decisions, decisions.

Re: Incoming NGD

Congrats! Looks killer.

Let me know how you like the Seth in yours. I'm still undecided on what to use in mine.

Re: Incoming NGD

I replaced the stock "G&B" (Garbled and Brittle?) bridge with my spare Seth. In a word, Wow, just wow.

Being an all Korina body (no maple cap) and noticeably thinner and lighter than my LP, it could be described sounding somewhere between an LP and an SG. It doesnt have the low end of an LP or the upper mid / nasally presence of an SG, but still with a very vintagey classic rock tone.

While I was at it I removed the treble bleed cap and did a quick swap of the stock wiring to 50s scheme (i.e. moved the tone circuit from the input to the output of the volume pot). When I get my neck pickup, I will be gutting

Interesting. Mine is one of the brightest guitars I've owned. I don't know if its the Korina or the lightweight wraparound or what, but it sounds pretty twangy with the PAF Pro it has now... granted, the PAF Pro is a pretty bright pickup in itself, but acoustically, the guitar is very bright too. The neck Phat Cat sounds killer, though. Super sparkly clean, and super spanky with gain, but not overly chirpy or squelchy.

I guess that just goes to show that each guitar is different.
