Incoming NPD's + Actual NPD

So I went on a buying binge recently.

The only pedal I've received thus far is the Mobius. I've got two more pedals coming this week that will go on either side of the Tri/Ram muff. As to what they are... well, that's a surprise. But for anyone that's watched my pedal journey even somewhat closely over the last year or two won't be surprised.

The Mobius is awesome. I spent yesterday digging into it pretty nicely, but I spent a lot of time with the destroyer machine. I've never had a bit crusher/ring mod before and I find this one to be extremely musical and a lot of fun.

I've made a few presets already, mostly just the basic modulation sounds - phase, flange, rotary, trem, etc. These are all fantastic. I really like the flanger machine, it's extremely versatile and lush sounding. I've never had a chorus pedal before but I might actually use the chorus in this unit, it sounds very nice and not at all overbearing or like cheesy 80's butt rock.

The Mobius makes an awesome partner to the Timeline. I'm going to get a small MIDI controller next month to go right beneath the Timmy and it will control both of them simultaneously. Banking on the Strymons is about as good as you can get in this form factor, but it will be much easier with just one button and scrolling. Plus, MIDI control gives the looper much more functionality and ease of use, including undo and redo functions, half speed and reverse, loop volume control, and it's just much easier to control in general. That will be my next purchase, I'm looking forward to it verily.

I'll be updating this thread later with more impressions of the Mobius and the other pedals I receive. Feel free to ask any questions.

Re: Incoming NPD's + Actual NPD

I had the most wild time tonight. I got the second set of inputs on the mobius hooked up to the feedback loop of the timeline so that I could put the mobius either before the timeline or in the feedback loop. I set the mobius to a ring modulation preset and put it in the loop and I was blown away. As the delay does its thing, the ring modulation sees a different pitch every time, so each time the delay bounces back, it would modulate the pitch. I need to get a recording of this, it's so awesome.

Man, I love living vicariously through your experiments.

Let me see if I can guess what's going in there...

#1. Definitely one of these:

#2. Make room for one of these:

NEW CUSTOM FUZZY WUZZY WUZZIES

New Fuzz Day. I used it at band practice an hour or two ago and it killed. This is actually my second Scarab Deluxe. I traded my first one early this year because I needed something different but with the music I'm playing now it kills. I had John do it up with the custom cosmetics, top jacks, and a handy battery kill switch so I don't have to use a tap of my PPII+ for it. The ugly knobless pedal is just a placeholder for the pedal that should be here later this week.

Re: Incoming NPD's + Actual NPD

Cool setup. I'm kind of still stuck in the '80s and am still using an old ADA MP-1 with a Quadraverb for ffx. I still have the standby Tube Screamer and NEVER leave home without my MXR Dynacomp. For my money the Dynacomp is one of the best compressors as it adds something without destroying your tone. After I while I forget it's there, until I turn it off. I am looking for an old Mutron, and am trying to find one of the old Morley phasers (great unit, looks like a wah, and you control it like one so you can get all sorts of cools stuff from the typical phasing to UFO crashlandings), that I should have NEVER let go.

Oh man, the Mobius is incredible. I've made about ten presets so far and I'm still discovering more tones I love. My favorite machines are the phaser, flanger, rotary, chorus, and destoryer.

The rotary is awesome. This may be the first leslie sim I've ever played, but it sounds fantastic. Extremely lush, pretty dynamic for a modulation, and a bunch of awesome features like being able to set the tap switch as either a regular tap switch or a switch to let you select the slow/fast speed. The built in dirt sounds fantastic for greasing up a nice clean tone just a bit.

I'm definitely a phaser junkie and the Mobius does not fail in regards to the sound quality of the phaser machine. The two and four stage modes are awesome, I've had a vintage PHase 45 and a newer phase 90 and the Mobius still sounds fantastic. I really like the 8 stage mode too, I just made a new 8 stage phase preset last night that sounds fantastic. I love the headroom paramater, being able to control the dirtiness of the phase is so awesome. The barber pole mode is really cool too, I haven't messed with it as much.

The flanger really surprised me. I had a Strymon Orbit for a while and I didn't like it as much as I had hoped, but the Mobius somehow fixed all the things I didn't like about it, namely the digital sheen on the effected signal. All of the modes are awesome, from the subtle gray to the classic black and into the positive and negative zero modes, which I still haven't gotten around to yet. (There's plenty on this device I haven't yet explored.)

I've never been a chorus fan nor had a chorus effect, but I really like the Mobius's chorus machine. It's not overbearing in the typical cheesy 80's ass rock kind of way. It's subtle, lush, and adds that wonderful ju ju to your tone.

The destroyer is so much fun. I've never had a ring modulation device before, despite having been enamored with them for years. This may have been the biggest surprise in the Mobius, the musicality of the ring modulations. Most of the time I heard a ring mod, it sounded artificial in some way. It's not necessarily a bad thing, it's just the ring mod sound. But the Mobius ring mod feels like an extension of my tone in the same way that a great dirt pedal does. Well maybe not the same way, it's kind of like the retarded incestuous offspring of a really good trem, but I hope you get my point lol.

Perhaps my favorite feature of the Mobius is the pre/post feature. I'm not using it in the intended manner (putting it in front of a few pedals and also after them) but instead I'm using it after my dirt pedals and again in the feedback loop of the Timeline. Doing this allows me to unlock many sounds I never dreamed possible. Tape delay with phaser on the repeats, Dual delay with tremolo, Digital delay with rotary, Ice delay with ring mod... the possibilities are as exciting as they are endless.

Perhaps the only thing I don't like about it in my rig is the banking interface. Since it's on the back row of my board, I find myself doing inaccurate steps to bank up or down on both the Timeline and Mobius. But that's why I'm getting a mini MIDI controller to handle the both of the Strymons. I'm going for a pretty full-featured controller, but if your needs are not as intesive as mine, you can even get a tiny Mooer sized midi controller to handle banking and another function or two.

So yeah, I really really recommend the Mobius to anybody. It's fantastic and I wish I'd had one forever.

Not sure if there was a point to this relating to the OP, but thanks for the complement :)

What is the blue distortion pedal?

It's a Weehbo JMP Drive, it emulates... a JMP. lol. It's easily the best distortion I've ever played. Extremely flexible with the fantastic three band active eq and mid frequency selector switch and the most amp-like response I've ever got from a dirt pedal.

Great Review Man!!! Now I'm Really Gassin' for the the Mobius!!! And using it thur the loop in the TimeLine has really "Got My Potato Bakin' "!!!! Very Cool!!!

One reason I really want a MIDI controller is because it allows on the fly pre/post switching. So instead of having to set up patches that are always in the loop and then scroll to them when you want it, you can use any of your patches pre or post.

Re: Incoming NPD's + Actual NPD

This is my last NPD for the next month or so (woe is me, woe is me...)

Rawkworks Light OD.

012_zps805ad11f.jpg

It's basically a mini Klone. For those not in the know, a Klone (as opposed to a clone) is a clone of a Klon Centaur.

While I won't say that the hype surrounding this particular circuit didn't influence me to try this pedal, there were definitely other more important reasons:

I was specifically looking for a buffered OD pedal to go after my fuzzes and before my Weehbo JMP drive. The Weehbo is rather picky about input impedance, so I figured I'd remove the chance of all the other pedals in line before it changing the impedance. I'd had that issue before and it absolutely neutered an otherwise pedal. Now, the Weehbo will always sound 100% awesome.

There are few Klones available in this size enclosure with top mounted jacks which, as you can see below, is an absolute necessity for my board. The only other one to my knowledge is the Mojopedals Klone which is not as readily available and also more expensive than the Light OD.

I also got this one because it has a few cool features that not all Klones have - selectable diode clipping, a LED brightness trimpot in the back (extremely handy, I don't know why other pedals don't have this. VFE is the only other builder who I know does it.) and the awesome LED display on the front, which is always on BTW. I love how it looks - nice and simple but the LED houses is a touch I've never seen before. Intuitive.

I took it to a jam sesh tonight and it ****ing killed. In fact, it is so good that I will be posting a separate thread tomorrow with an official review of it. I never thought I'd be a Klon(e) guy, but this pedal made everything sound fan-****ing-tastic.

Here are some pictures. Because who doesn't like pictures of cool gear?

Re: Incoming NPD's + Actual NPD

I'm curious as to why you have the Timmy at 90 degrees to the rest of the board - it looks like you have the space to negate the need for that. Care to enlighten me?

Oh, and the usual question, which PedalTrain is that you're using?

Re: Incoming NPD's + Actual NPD

Looks like a PT-1. The Rawkworks has been high on my list since a thread appeared about it a few moths ago...

And why is it crooked? The Vibe Machine and Tuner look a little off. Straighten it up! :D J/K

Re: Incoming NPD's + Actual NPD

I have had my Mobius for awhile now and I am in the same boat as you - I think it is an awesome pedal. Its just so powerful and all the effects sound great to my ear. I actually sold a bunch of my pedals when I got it and made a few bucks.

I put it at an angle so that I can fit one of these below it. I should be getting one next month provided funds come in as expected.

And yeah it's a PT-1.

I didn't notice it was crooked before now. Damn it now I have to straighten it for my own sanity. Ugh

If you've never tried a Klone before, you owe it to yourself to try the Rawkworks. I've never used one before and I was beyond shocked at how good it was. The bassist I jammed with last night was extremely impressed too. I hate how much hype the circuit has but I'd be lying if I said it didn't work magic on my tone.

Full review coming this evening.

Re: Incoming NPD's + Actual NPD

I've got a PCE Aluminum Falcon II Klone. I had the same reaction when I used it the first time. I sold my fulldrives, SD-1. Awesome circuit. Love it. I will look at that rawkworks as I like that LED motif!

I had a friend's gold Centaur for a couple of years on semi-permanent loan not long ago. I'm not an overdrive guy, and I prefer the Maxon OD820 to the Klon, so I returned it without any angst.
