Industry standard preamps

I'm looking to buy a really good 400-700 range preamp for my studio. Any of you guys use top of the line preamps that have been around for a while or are the industry standard?

My gameplan is to get one on Ebay. I just need an SM57 of preamps so to speak. Don't mind if it's only 1 or 2 channels.

ADA MP1
Marshall JMP-1
Mesa Studio Pre
Mesa Triaxis

There's more, but my brain just shut off and I can only remember the obvious....

Re: Industry standard preamps

I'm not so sure he's talking about preamps specifically designed for guitar.

Re: Industry standard preamps

That's what I was thinking, because it says "for my studio". For that kind of preamp, I'd recommend something by ART. I've used an ART Pro MPA for a few songs and it sounds great for vocals and guitar; it really fattens and warms the sound up. I can't remember if I used it on the drums.

Re: Industry standard preamps

yeah it's basically for vocals and for a clean bass tone. My guitar tone will be miced from my bandmaster with an sm57 to a DI box to my M-audio 1010LT card.

Remember, im talking 500-700 kinds of prices. Is the one you're talking about the Gold one by ART?

Re: Industry standard preamps

I don't think they make it anymore. The gold one looks similar, but I haven't tried it. From the specs it looks like it's a newer/better model than the one I used.

On the cheap end, there's the Peavey TG Raxx preamp. The guitar and bass preamps were identical, and I've read a bunch of stuff about people using them for vocal preamps as well.
