Re: Initial Review of Fender Custom Tele FMT HH
So on to the review:
Right out of the box the action was iffy, neck relief was off and needs adjustment, pup height is a matter of taste and needed to be adjusted up, and it really needs a string change up to 10's. The finish is nearly flawless, absolutly beautiful. The neck is fast and comfortable, frets are nicly dressed jumbos. Tuners seem solid and hold tuning. Volume CTS pot feels silky smooth, while the tone push pull pot feels a bit loose. The pots, btw, are recessed a bit into the top. Not as deep as say a PRS, but it was a nice touch. Control cavity is painted with shielding paint and the cover is shielded. Fit on the the cover is ok, but very tight and it takes more effort to pull it and put it back in for a flush fit. The pup splitting is really cool, both pups split when the pot is pulled. In the middle pos of the 3way the Bridge/Neck split are hum canceling due to the '59 neck being reverse wound, another nice touch. This is a bright guitar and I'm not sure if the PG+ is the right pup for the job. The jury is still out on either of the pups. The PG+ is too brittle and the '59n is too muddy under gain, but I've got alot more tweaking to do before I pull them. Now both pups played clean split or HBing sound wonderful. More to come........
