Hey everyone, I just put a dimarzio super distortion in a buddy of mines jaguar for him, so I installed it as a series-parallel push/pull. Followed the diagram suggested by dimarzio, and now my only issue is when at full volume it completely cuts out. At around 7 or 8 volume on the guitar it sound great but it completely cuts out past that.

Now I'm not a wiring guru but I've installed push/pulls before on my emg-89 and on another coil tap pickup. So the series parallel diagram is the only thing I feel like I could have goofed on.

Anyone know why this would be happening? Could it be just an issue with a bad pot?

Welcome to the forum.

Does it kinda click into place full on? I've never seen a no-load push pull pot for sale, but who knows.

If not, I think it may be a bad/damaged pot. I don't see how the series/parallel wiring could affect the pot's volume function, so I don't think you messed up there. It may be able to be repurposed as a no-load tone pot though.

No it doesn't click into the full spot. Its just rolls like an normal pot.

So on the chance its just the pot, is my obvious option to just replace it and re-solder a new pot in?

I'm usually ok with blaming myself for my own wrongs but it just is a bummer to get it right and have a damaged pot. Lol.

You could first try spraying contact cleaner(deoxit preferably) and rotating the knob on the off chance its just dirty and see if that brings it back. If you don't have that, it would probably cost you about the same as a replacement pot for a can of it, so it might not be worth the investment unless you have more electronics that potentially need cleaned.

It has to be a bad pot, so the question is what might have happened. Was it a brand new push pull pot? Didi you hold the soldering iron to it for extended periods of time, possibly causing it to become damaged by heat?

I've had this happen to me with a completely different set of pickups and electronics. The pot is bad. Turns out I overheated the pot while soldering.

Did you use flux? If not, get some, it will save future pot destruction.

Why doesn't anyone make pots with ground lugs on them, so I don't keep frying them while soldering to the cans? Jeez...
