Installed a SD Dimebucker and DMT DimeTime PU in my Dean Razorback.

I recently bought a Dean Razorback and it had the DMT design pickups in it. They sounded okay but were nothing special. So I picked up a SD Dimebucker and Dean DMT DimeTime PU off a local seller on fleaBay for a good price. I soldered all the connections yesterday and set the height of the pickups this evening and tried them out. This was my first time installing pickups and everything went fine. So far I really like the sound of the Dimebucker but I am not too crazy about the DMT sound. I am probably going to try out a SD 59 for the neck and a Wilde Bill & Becky L-500XL. I have to order some new pickup height screws from Stew Mac because the ones that came with the guitar are soft junk! I am also going to replace the pickup plate screws and order some tall and low metal pickup plates. I am a Gunsmith and have a lot of screwdriver sets and it was still a painful process turning these cheap screws lol. Preparing the pots for soldering was a chore because it looked like two different people soldered the wires. One wire would look great and the next looked like someone sneezed solder all over it lol. So I spent some time using de-soldering braid and a pump to clean everything up before soldering the new pickup wires. I did have to cut and tin a hot wire because that helping hand tool with the gator clips, magnefine glass and light had tared in to the wire from the gator clip. I am going to toss those clips and replace them with flat clips so I don't have to deal with that happening again. It took awhile to get the pickups installed and set up but it was worth it. I am really liking the Dimebucker's sound.

I'm sure that was an improvement over stock, but I think youre going in the right direction by considering an L500XL/'59 set up next time around. A few other combos to try with the L500XL bridge are...L500XL neck(wired parallel, or with 250k for neck only) or an L500L neck.
The L500R generally measure at upper 7k - lower 8k so they are also a great choice, the L500L is usually 12k and the 500XL are advertised at 13.3k but everyone I've had were 14.5-15.3k
The Dimebuckers are nice and I've owned four or five of them but I always felt that the Lawrence did a better job for my personal objective, and I've never had one in a mahogany body, so maybe that's key there.

Thanks Metalchurch79 for all the suggestions. This model is the cheap Basswood body but I am picking up a Mahogany body build kit soon. I will look in to those other pickups. The Dimebucker is definitely a different type of sound and the stock design pickups were not horrible but I just didn't like the sound I got from them. I already had a saddle strip on the cheap FR Special and the string lock screw wasn't even all the way in. Dean is sending me out a new one for free which is awesome of them to do. I am definitely going to go with a real FR for the build and some SD's for the pickups. Still deciding on whether to go with the Ibanez or Razorback style body kit. Thanks again.

I love that sh-13. It's one of the clearest non-dry (in other words it's still thick and juicy) sounding pups on the market from any brand.

Through my rectifiers I usually end up with the mids jacked waaay up and the treble down very low,,,,but that's what the knobs are for so I sure don't mind.
My bass is ran quite high with it also but that's more because of my dime being loaded in a rg1550 w/basswood-body.
The end result is thrilling though!

If you go with the L500XL and 59 make sure you use a 59 bridge in the neck. I have the Bill and Becky (Wilde pickups) L500XL and the 59 bridge in the neck of my Dean V79. I tried the 59 neck model but it wasn't loud enough to match well in the middle position. The bridge model in the neck is the perfect match volume wise imo. The middle position has a very nice sound to it.

Dimebucker with the 59b in the neck. 'Nuff said.

The Dimebucker is one of my favorite SD pickups (and extremely underappreciated, one of the most versatile pickups out there.) Unconventional, but IMO it pairs better with a Screamin Demon in the neck than a 59.

If you want something a tad smoother though I would go with the Wilde Bill Lawrence L500s (XL or L with R or C in the neck.)
