Installed the new Classic Stack Plus today!

Man these are very full sounding pickups, the neck is thick, middle is funky, bridge Rocks and positions 2 and 4 still quack! I havent played any real vintage pickups so I cant compare them but I do know I have a strat that still has some balls behind its tone which is a good thing considering I played humbuckers all the time!

I'm getting ready to practice with my band so i will have a better Idea how the pups will respond in a band setting but I think these will work out nicely

Does anyone know what the strat pickup heights are for this type of pickup, I started out at 3/32 treble and 4/32 Bass!

Use your ears and your own instincts.....Adjust until it sounds great to you..There's a sweet spot with all pickups and you'll find it with trial and error.

Well the pickups sound great with the band I had a great time using my strat the whole night there was plenty of fat tone to go around. The pedals I used were my Barber Silver LTD and Direct Drive and my amp is a 59 Bassman RI, I play mostly classic Rock but still do some of the Hard rock and the Classic Stack plus did not dissapoint.

As far as pickup height I like where I had them around 3/32 treble and 4/32 bass.

J ...
you have a great setup!

I always start with your exact settings.

I tested the prototypes though, and one of my comments was that they were somewhat compressed, so if anything, I'd try them a little lower - but only if you aren't satisfied with your tone .. fat and compressed is not necessarily a bad thing with a strat!

enjoy

Thanks Curly, actully I did turn the neck and middle pup down a 1/4 of a turn to try and get the best balance compared to the bridge. I do use the bridge pup quite a bit and for a single coil it was not Irritating at all, the tone of the bridge pup kind of reminded me of Richie Blackmore so I had to start playing some Deep Purple riffs::bigthumb:

I think you will like it the middle has that twangy brightness but with a little more soul, like I mentioned earlier these pups dont sound thin at all which is why I am thrilled about them................... did I mention they are very quiet!

Sounds very encouraging. Please let this be it.

Never been completely satisfied with any reduced noise pickup, always ended up taking them out in favor of a single coil, but I'm extremely frustrated by the noise. Threw some EMG's in a Strat yesterday, they are nice, but definitely something missing tonewise. I get that feeling with Kinman's too.

Got any pics of the Stack Plus installed on your guitar?

yes, I also found the middle pickup very usable ... that's not the case with all strat middle pickups ...
in fact, IIRC, this set had 5 good positions

Re: Installed the new Classic Stack Plus today!

I know I like strats into Bassmans even more than a McCarty, so you'll have a great strat tone right off the bat with that amp!

Are these the new Pro Stack, or did they call it the Stack Plus?

That strat looks great with the logos on each pickup......it looks like customized vintage. If you did go back to using a humbucker in the bridge, I think nickelcovered would look way cool on that guitar. One of these days, I want to put a McCarty bridge pickup in a strat. I wonder how the polarity jives with Duncan strat pickups? I've never tried it. You probably have a nickel McCarty lying around.

Re: Installed the new Classic Stack Plus today!

On the topic if middle pickups. I have been using Megaswitches for years....my middle position is the bridge and neck pickup. I much prefer that to the standard strat middle pickup.

Re: Installed the new Classic Stack Plus today!

standard pots and cap values work fine

some of us tested Lew's prewired guard that had a blender pot, and that was fine

What kind of pots do these pickups require?

I used 250k pots, at first I had a .02uF for the tone pots but when the pickups arrived the Instructions showed a .047uf. I had a Orange Drop .047 available so I Installed that instead.

Lew also has had them for a long time before they came out and was quite satisfied with 'em, and that guy knows alot about pickups, so they should be quite good.
