Installed the new Classic Stack Plus today!

I know I like strats into Bassmans even more than a McCarty, so you'll have a great strat tone right off the bat with that amp!

Are these the new Pro Stack, or did they call it the Stack Plus?

That strat looks great with the logos on each pickup......it looks like customized vintage. If you did go back to using a humbucker in the bridge, I think nickelcovered would look way cool on that guitar. One of these days, I want to put a McCarty bridge pickup in a strat. I wonder how the polarity jives with Duncan strat pickups? I've never tried it. You probably have a nickel McCarty lying around.

Hi Gearjonser, these are called the Classic Stack Plus!

I havent touched my McCarty in weeks I'm totally diggin the Strat as my main guitar , if I need some tones with some major beef to it then I would grab the McCarty (which is stock again) so the McCarty pups are back in use! I have thought about selling the McCarty for a nice Telecaster!

Lew also has had them for a long time before they came out and was quite satisfied with 'em, and that guy knows alot about pickups, so they should be quite good.

I based my decision to buy these due to Lew's post and the couple of others that tried them as well, now I have to figure out what I should do when the Bill Lawrence pups come in that I ordered I can probably try them and do a comparison to see what I like better!

On the topic if middle pickups. I have been using Megaswitches for years....my middle position is the bridge and neck pickup. I much prefer that to the standard strat middle pickup.

Me too. I never use the middle pickup alone. I use either a Megaswitch or the Fralin Blender pot to get the N & B tone. The Megaswitch wears out kinda fast through. Seems to only last a year or two in my guitars.

I'm really glad these pickups are working out...this is the first post I've read from someone who's tried the actual production version. I have six sets on order...wish Duncan would hurry up and ship them to me! :cussing: :laugh2: Lew

Nah...I just want to start sellin' 'em!

I have to say that although I do love the Stack Plus and do plan to gig with them, when it comes right down to it I still prefer the Antiquitys and Fralin Vintage Hots. The Stack Plus pickups are the best humfree Strat pickups I've ever used but they still fall about 5% short of getting the exact tone and vibe of the Antiquitys or the pickups in my '63 Strat. But 5% is a small price to pay for hum free operation on stage...sometimes that buzz can be a real pain! Lew

Hey Lew,
Have you ever used Kinmans? I'm really wondering how well the Stack Plus(es) stack up (no pun intended) against Kinmans...have about 5 pickups that need to be replaced at this point, and I think those are the real contenders.

Lew, I just picked up on the fact that you actually tried these things??...I was under the mistaken impression that the buzz surrounding these things was all hype...and no actual first hand impressions...

I'm very curious to hear your impressions on the pickups....but not necessarily compared to kinmans, but compared to the real single coils in your strats....i.e. the ssl-1s and the antiquities...

Maybe Lew can give you a link to the review he did after he installed a set in one of his own strats....Maybe try the search function also?

Re: Installed the new Classic Stack Plus today!

I will see if I can make a few clips tomorrow!

I can hear what Lew is talking about when he says there about 95% there compared to a real Single coil but I'm not a fanatic about vintage singles so i would rather be hum free and 95% there!

'the guy who invented fire' also tested Lew's prototypes, and A/ B'ed them with Kinmans.
If we can't find the thread with his comments, maybe you can PM him and ask him about that.

those of us who tested the prototypes could not really say much specifically about the pickups at the time, since they were still in development.

Anyone try the new Suhr singles? They're supposed to be amazing hum free singles...
