Re: Installing pickup covers
I went with masking tape completely covering the slug side and partially over the adjustable pole-pieces side. Then I put a little line of silicone along that on the slug side and slid the cover on. I couldn't get the damn solder to stick to the base-plates of the pups with my crappy 40W soldering iron though, and didn't want to damage them by holding the iron there for too long. So, what I did instead was run a ground wire from the back of a tone pot, spliced two wires to the end of that and soldered them to the outsides of the covers near the bottom. Then I siliconed around where the base-plates meet the covers for the extra solidity that the solder would have provided. Worked out great. I really prefer the look of chrome covers to the bare zebra humbuckers on my Jackson King V. I think its worth the barely perceivable change in tone.
