Interesting necks (bolt on)

I wanna get a new neck for my '62RI strat. It's about 18 years old now (bought it new) and i want a change. Aside from the small vintage frets being low already, there's enough fretwear to warrant a fretjob and asidr from that, i don't want a vintage 7.25" radius anymore. All my extreme bends fret out and it's annoying as hell.

I want something interesting, and inexpensive. Looking for maple fretboard, modern sorta radius (10"/12"/14"), 22 medium jumbo or jumbo frets, and preferably with a headstock access for the truss rod. I'm fed up of heel adjust.

I know about warmoth, usacg, musikraft, allparts, stewmac and mightymite, but i'm trying to explore other options.

Throw me some suggestions for good necks that fit strat pockets.

Re: Interesting necks (bolt on)

Explore other options then return to Warmoth and go with roasted maple. It's the best feeling neck you can get and it doesn't need a finish so you save that expense. Most standard Warmoth necks are a 10-16 compound radius. Check the showcase for one already made and it will be cheaper than having one custom made. You won't be disappointed.

I'ma throw Carvin out there, but I'm not sure about their options...

But Warmoth would prolly be at the top of my list.
:)

Re: Interesting necks (bolt on)

Mod one brother. go flat radius with rolled edges. You could do the fretjob yourself.

Re: Interesting necks (bolt on)

I put together a strat-style guitar several years ago with a Warmth body and neck (JB and AII pickups). Warmth makes a fantastic replacement neck. The modern necks have a compound radius and you can select your preferred neck profile.

Personally, I'd be inclined to go Musikraft, 1-piece maple neck, Charvel So Cal profile, rolled edges, and jumbo frets. Oiled.

I love Warmoth necks. I have used USACG necks and they are good too. I have played on a few Mighty Mite necks that impressed me. Other than that, I really do not know what else is out there.

Re: Interesting necks (bolt on)

I looked into GuitarMill and was surprised to find they're from Jolly's hometown.

Unfortunately the neck I spec'd out was way over budget.

I ended up going with a WD music licensed strat neck that pretty much matched all my specs exactly. and was well within my budget.
Also bought some fret levelling tools so now I am almost completely set up to do my own fretwork. All I got left to get is flush-ground end cutters and then I'll even be able to do refrets.

+1 to this...Warmoth's Roasted Maple necks are just amazing!

Yeah, I had forgotten all about them for some reason. They're probably only about three miles from my house. I looked at their prices, and I also thought they were a bit expensive. I just thought that I'd throw them out there for the hell of it.

Re: Interesting necks (bolt on)

I just read this and after reading your specs, I instantly thought of WD. Coincidentally I just ordered one today for a customer. I recently put an Allparts neck on a different customer's guitar, and it was really nice. Fret work was really good...didn't even have to touch it up. Did have to drill out the tuner holes for "modern" tuners, though...
