Introducing the Jimi Hendrix Signature Strat Set

Re: Introducing the Jimi Hendrix Signature Strat Set

I am having a difficult time understanding the $279 price tag.
Baseline:
Fender Custom shop excellent pickups ~$200/set;
Duncan excellent pickup set choices ~$180
So lets say start at $190
Mr. Duncan's story $ 50 per set
Hendrix signature -25 cost of removing embarrassing marking bought from a trust that has abused the legacy of Jimi Hendrix for decades
R&D savings -25 per set as they were already designed 48 years ago, so the story goes and I believe it
Fair price $190

What am I am I missing here?

percentage paid to the Hendrix estate....

Re: Introducing the Jimi Hendrix Signature Strat Set

But I do have to say if you asked the population of guitar players who change pickups in their guitars what they would rather have: a Jimi Hendrix set or a Jeff Beck set they would choose the Jeff Beck set. (problem is that Beck has used so many guitars and pickups over his career it would be near impossible to create a set. It would have to be a set based on a specific point in his career. I think a Jeff Beck Truth set would be a big seller)

A Jeff Beck Truth set. Right up there with the best Les Paul tones I've ever heard.

Someone stole those pickups right out of Beck's Les Paul though and they're gone, gone, gone.

That's why Seymour created the Jazz and the JB for Jeff. Or at least that's the story..

As for Beck's Strat set, John Suhr made those.

And they won't fit in a regular Strat.

They're taller than regular Strat pickups so the rout in the body has to made deeper.

John has said he's thought about making a few sets just for those who keep asking for them.

But I guess he's too busy making guitars.

Just a couple thoughts:

1. Who is the Jimi Hendrix "estate"?

2. When i think of Jeff Beck, I think Stratocaster. (Why isn't there a Strat JB?)

Inquiring minds want to know. :)

Re: Introducing the Jimi Hendrix Signature Strat Set

I don't know about Beck, but a cousin of some of Jimi's half siblings run it now after the old man died.

My first major memorable exposure to Beck was Rod Stewart's "Infatuation". So I think about his shredding on a Jackson. Didn't his signature Strat have a Lace Sensor humbucker in it?

The early model was a HSS configuration w/Lace Sensor p'ups.

The latest model hosts a SSS configuration w/Fender, ceramic-based, noiseless p'ups.

HTH,

HTH,

I tried a few Lace Sensor at about the time of that early model you mentioned. I think Clapton was using them too.

tried the Gold ones. and tried a Red in the bridge. all singles. they never seemed to meet my goals.

Re: Introducing the Jimi Hendrix Signature Strat Set

Ok they've been out a little while. Any indication on the "style" of Strat pickups these are? The specs say 6.07k and A5. Any indication of Formvar vs Plain Enamel? Clues as to if they lean early 60's or late 60's?

Re: Introducing the Jimi Hendrix Signature Strat Set

I am sure we will get some sort of confirmation behind the construction. For now, I know what was widely released, as do you.

Re: Introducing the Jimi Hendrix Signature Strat Set

Maybe I'll win the Strat and Pickups and I can dig into it myself. ;)
