Introducing the new Red Devil for Strat Set!

Re: Introducing the new Red Devil for Strat Set!

My friend, Nic, had band practice last night. Said it went great and the RD held up and sounded all kinds of killer. Nothing really to add from his previous comments...just said that it's completely awesome.

No wait, he did say he likes it better than the previous SD single coil size humbuckers he's used before (JB Jr, Hot Rails, Screamin' Demon). Said that it has that sparkle you get with full size humbuckers, but that he didn't get with the single size previously.

NOTE: I've never felt any kind of "missing sparkle" issue with the JB Jr, Little '59 or Hot Rails.

Re: Introducing the new Red Devil for Strat Set!

I have a decked Fender Deluxe Roadhouse Strat with maple fretboard and the noiseless pickups. I love everything about this guitar except the bridge-only tone. I wonder how this would sound in the bridge. There are a few tunes my band does that really sound better on my PRS Singlecut with Pearly Gates pickups. Using the Strat on them is always sort of a "compromise" when I don't feel like switching guitars six times in a set... really puts a damper on the flow you know?

Is it possible to wire it so that the bridge/middle combo automatically splits the coils on the RD? Anyone try this position out? I use it quite a bit.

Re: Introducing the new Red Devil for Strat Set!

yes its possible to auto split, no i havent tried it. yet.

Re: Introducing the new Red Devil for Strat Set!

Finally got my guitar with the Red Devil in the bridge.

Folks...this pickup is the real deal. This strat sounds EXACTLY like a Les Paul (which is what I was hoping for). I love the Little 59 and the JB Jr, too, but this pickup is in a whole other class.

I'm embarrassed to say that mine are still sitting in the box. The Strat I got, to put them in, needs a set-up. My luthier is swamped. Hopefully, soon. :blackeye:

haha...happy to have been of assistance. I don't mean to put down the other single coil size SD humbucker options, because they really are fantastic...my JB Jr and Little '59 loaded guitars ain't goin' anywhere. I'm really jazzed about the RD though, that's for sure.

Re: Introducing the new Red Devil for Strat Set!

There's this one Strat that visited me in a dream a few nights back, red body, red pickguard, and a cream Red Devil set...

One day, I'll turn that dream into a reality.

Re: Introducing the new Red Devil for Strat Set!

cliffenstien,
May I ask, how does the bridge RD clean up? I normally use PAF wind 'buckers in my Strat bridge spots. Once I used a JB humbucker and it was so hot I could never get it to sound clean no matter what. I have used a 59/Custom hybrid that is pretty hot but I could get that one to clean up to "BB King" specs. I realize the RD is a mini bucker, so is way different from a JB humbucker, still, it is wound hot, so how does it do if "BB King" specs or tones are wanted?
Curious, Thanks,
Steve Buffington

Exactly like a Les Paul?

Damn that's disappointing

If I turn down the volume knob on my guitar, I have no problem playing clean through red channel 1 of my JCM2000 DSL100 or my Jet City JCA50H (both running into mid 80’s JCM800 cabs).
