Introducing the new Red Devil for Strat Set!

Re: Introducing the new Red Devil for Strat Set!

just got it done. preliminary testing shows it to be a winner! damn iphone pics. excuse the ugly knobs, they were all i had in black. they will be replaced before the show tonight. oh and a bucker rout does not fit a reverse angle strat pup without some modification for those wondering :D

I’m so glad we’re finally discussing this!!!!! This most excellent pickup hasn’t been getting any love online anywhere. My guess is that people don’t like the price and not a lot of places are selling the pickups separately. It sure sounds killer in my guitar.

Cool Strat. But I gotta ask: Is there some reason for the reverse angle bridge, other than cosmetic?

Tighter sounding low strings, warmer high strings. A lot of the right handed Jimi strats do that.

I find these intriguing. But yeah - little to no word on them. This thread is full of clueless and fan boy so I'm waiting eagerly on an assessment that is more critical than "sounds exactly like a Les Paul"

I'd really like to know

RD vs Lil' PG
RD vs Lil 59
and some neck/middle reviews

Re: Introducing the new Red Devil for Strat Set!

pups are great! bridge switch isnt working right but i think its the switch is wonky since i triple checked the wiring.

the neck pup is a little brighter than the lil 59 with maybe a bit less low mids? didnt a/b them but thats my initial feeling. sounds nice warm and fat in series and bright and jangly split with a fair amount of volume drop but it works great for rhythm work. the middle pup sounds great too, nice attack without being overly bright. the bridge in series is very zz top sounding. played the guitar the whole gig and got everything i needed.

Typically what music are you playing in your band?
Top 40 covers?

It’s more jagged, rough and ready, open and airy than my JB Jr or Little ‘59. Sounds less compressed, so it’s not as smooth...I mean this in a good way.

It’s mid forward, where the little 59 is mid back. It doesn’t have piercing highs or boomy lows. It’s friggin’ fabulous.

Re: Introducing the new Red Devil for Strat Set!

I'm in. Been wishy washy about putting a 'bucker in my Strat bridge for well over a year, sounds like this is the one.

Last question, it's not stupid hot is it? I don't really want to change out the Texas Special middle & neck.

Re: Introducing the new Red Devil for Strat Set!

i dont think its stupid hot no, set properly i think it would balance with the texas specials

Re: Introducing the new Red Devil for Strat Set!

I agree completely with Jeremy. I only have the bridge pickup and have zero volume issues with my 2007 stock American Standard middle and neck pickups.

Re: Introducing the new Red Devil for Strat Set!

What is the EQ like on these things? If you had to give bass, mid, treble a number...and what full size humbucker do they most resemble?
