Re: Invader/DD/500T oversized/triple mag swaps (pics)
Ive never really looked into the Alt8. Does it have that rawwr thing going on, or is it a little more subdued? The only clip Ive heard of the Alt8 sounded like something was wrong with it.
Just for yuks I moved my alt 8 from neck to bridge, replacing my invader bridge, and I have to say I'm happier with it there, replacing the invader.
No, it's not quite as aggressive, but the difference isn't huge and the gains outweigh that for me. The bass is also thick, but the attack is clearer and rounder, and more discernible, especially in drop C. The mids are also there, but they seem more defined. And the added highs allow easier pinch harmonics (or something else does) and add some clarity. Finally, the lead tone is just sweeter.
King Izzo - Any reason why I couldn't slap an A8 mag into a neck invader? Any differences between that swap and a bridge swap? While trying the alt 8 in the bridge I moved my neck invader back to neck position. Unlike the bridge, it's a pretty trebly, clear pup that doesn't easily give me the tone all the way down, fuzzy neck leads like, but maybe swapping to an A8 may help warm it up.
What I didn't expect is that, playing the neck invader parallel with the tone rolled back midway, I had no issues playing a combo of high gain rythmn and leads, and it was actually more agressive than the alt 8 in the bridge (but not as big nor sweet sounding). No flubby/loose bass, etc. I guess that's the reason SD designed the neck's EQ the way they did. It'd be great if an A8 warmed it up a bit without loosing it's ability to deal with high gain. I'd like to avoid trying other neck pups if I can make this one work with a cheap mag swap.
