Hi folks, I'm new here and dropping by at the suggestion of the guys over at the Jackson/Charvel Forum. I just bought a used Jackson DR-3 Professional Dinky Reverse with an ash body, and am thinking of getting an Invader to replace the craptacular Duncan Designed bridge pickup. This would be used for playing melodic death and thrash metal in standard tuning. I own a Jackson DR-2 USA with almost identical specs (ash, lo-pro Floyd) and a Full Shred in the bridge, and I love the combination of tight low end and good note definition for leads. More recently, I have been recording using a basswood Dinky with an Invader, and am very impressed with that as well.
I've searched through the forum here, and although I found a few posts mentioning the Invader-in-ash setup, it doesn't appear to be very common. Under different circumstances, I might be inclined to order something different, but it just so happens that the local Jackson shop has an Invader in stock and offers a discount on pickup installs. That being the case, I can't think of any reason NOT to try this . . . unless there are overwhelming replies against that particular combination.
Anyone?
