ok guys. I have a distortion in my schecter c-1 and it is far to bright and straight forward sounding in this guitar (standard tuning). I like it for down tuning but its not working in this one. my other guitar in this tuning has a 59/Custom Hybrid with an A8. I want this one to sound more like that. so custom 8 or invader? hear is a song i recorded with the hybrid to give you an idea of the tone im going for. Custom 8 will get you closer than the Invader.
the Invader is a super thick meaty pickup, lots of emphasis on the lows and low mids and not a whole lot happening in the upper mids and highs. The Custom 8 has a lot more presence in the upper mids than the Invader, and more highs as well, but they're smooth. You're definitely gonna want those upper mids if you're trying to get closer to the '59/C hybrid sound. One of the hybrid's coils is a Custom coil anyway.
