The dude in C.O.C uses an invader in his Les paul. As far as Im concerned I think they have some of the best sounds in recent years.

eh? the one dude in COC that uses invaders (woody weatherman) plays all SGs. pepper keenan (the other dude) uses a lot of different stuff, but his main axes are esp vipers with anderson H3 and duncan vintage P90

Re: Invader

In the video for Clean my wounds isn't that a Les Paul? It's been years! Well an SG is super bright makes since. Though I could swear he has a Les Paul with an Invader in it. Hmm....im curious I'll go to the site now.

Re: Invader

Stonebreaker vid looks like a Viper. Pepper uses SGs and Vipers also. Makes me really want to by an SG and installing an Invader. Years ago though I swear in the clean my wounds vid Pepper had a red SG and Woody had a Les Paul.

I agree with Zhangliqun. He is about right on the money!!
I played Gr8scott's invader equipped carvin superstrat the other weekend and I was half impressed. I used to play an Invader through digital setups (pod and other processors) and it didnt have much clarity and it was too muddy. Through my Marshall 2100 it sounded quite good actually. It sounded HUGE and I could actually hear the G-high E strings. I have also noticed that Invaders make cheap small combo amps distortion sound alot better.

+1. Fender FM 212R's aren't bad amps to start with, but the stock bridge pup sounded like trash through it, but once I threw in that Invader, there was no denying my amp already sounded bigger than it was. Although I've grown up a little bit and started listening to older stuff (think Allman Bros. to Muddy Waters and stuff), the Invader doesn't really have its place in there. Once I get my LP and get a Pearly Gates bridge and '59 neck, it will be blues heaven for my amp.

How would it sound in a Maple body, maple neck, ebony board, brass nut (BRIGHT) axe???

This has been explained earlier in this thread, but the short answer is it would probably sound pretty good.

nope, clean my wounds has SGs all around. you might be thinking of the albatross vid, where woody has that same SG but pepper is playing an LP with P90s. and in the drowning in a daydream vid, woody's still playing an SG, but peppers playing a f*ckin 335! that one really threw me. but anyway, im pretty sure woody has been 100% SGs the whole time. these days he plays esp SGs (not really vipers.....theyre just as thin as gibsons and dont have the body slant. some of peppers arent offset like regular vipers either, but all of his are just as thick, if not thicker, than regular vipers).

Re: Invader

the invader has sweet distortion its good if u play speed metal. i like the jb more though cause i like playing van halen and the invader has a lot of bass.

Juz one question...Is it good to place a invader at neck position in a ibanez grx 70...?me new at this
If you have another Invader, or something equally as hot or hotter in the bridge, you'll be fine. I had an old Jackson Kelly (poplar or alder body, I can't remember) with two old non-logoed Invaders in it... it rocked! I believe these were just regular bridge versions and that they do make a neck version now, though.

Only if you use the neck model of the Invader.

If you put the bridge model of the Invader in the neck position, you will be sorry because it will sound gawdawful -- WAAYYYYY too strong for the neck position and will overpower any pickup in the bridge position...including another Invader.

Re: Invader

AHH!! Yeah it seems he is all about sgs. To think he was a Les Paul guy! ha ha

Those ESPs look awesome! I was looking into buying one of these but decided to just get a Les paul.

Re: Invader

damn, thats nice. cant remember if ive seen that one before. im usually pretty up to date with ESP's new additions. i wish they would make a pepper keenan sig. viper so i can have a damn P-90 in the neck!

Re: Invader

well ill be goddamned! i just looked through a set of pics of COC live from a couple days ago, and it looks like pepper went and put invaders in the bridge positions of all his main guitars! haha. i wonder how their live sound compares to before he switched. cause when i saw em (pepper was still using H3's and some mystery white pickup in one guitar) his tone cut through a lot better than woody did (all invader/PGn) for him. btw, does anyone else find matching a PG with an invader a bit odd? seems like the PG would be too bright for something with as much low end as the invader

Hmm, I actually installed an Invader in my maple Jackson Dinky (+maple neck and ebony fretboard) yesterday and first impression is pretty good, enormous output and massive crunch, way better than the Distortion. I haven't tested it on higher volumes yet, though. So can't really say something about the bass yet, but it's definetly not 'warm' sounding. It's pretty tight though.
Some more intensive testing is needed (I use an Engl 530 and VHT 2/50/2), but I'll swap it with a TB-5 within a month, compare them and then decide which one will stay.
But first impressions are quite 'impressive'
Definetly worth trying out!!

Maple bodies are a pain in the ass to find a decent sound...

Juz got a invader installed...sounds awsome...but lacking in the clean thats just one thing i dun like abt the invader but i like the crunchy and fat sounds when its on distortion

Re: Invader

Iced Dragon,
I know. I had a tone zone in one axe and it was so dark, put it in the maple one and it was brittle and thin.. TZ 's are never thin... C5 seems to be working well tho, but I may go invader cuz it needs more thud.

Fat boyr, What did you put it in??

You could coil-split it -- 8.4k ohms per coil it would probably sound pretty good. You could also wire it for Spin-A-Split...

Re: Invader

i got my invader set up for splitting, it sounds pretty good. for something with that much low end, it sounds surprisingly snappy when split. i dig it
