I finally got around to trying my Invader set in my old Charvel ST Deluxe and all I can say is this thing is a monster now! I have it set with 1V 1T and a push/pull to split the coils. Cleans are pretty nonexistent even with the split and volume rolled down, but that's just fine since I wanted this guitar to have more oomph for the medium to hard rocking stuff I do with my 90's cover band (Rage, Pumpkins, AIC, Tool, White Zombie, etc). This guitar has had a JB in the bridge for nearly 20 years and as much as I liked it for some leads it was always lacking for rhythm work. Now it's really full, still has plenty of bite, but just roars instead of sings. I'll have a better feel for it after a couple of gigs but for now I'm loving it even more than usual. Here she is in her current rockin' glory!

Re: Invaders...

Looks sweet man! Yeah, Invaders are pretty beastly roar factories. They remind me a lot of the DMZ Super Distortion - thick and fat, high output monsters, although the Invader is definitely more modern sounding.

for a short while before I put the Rose single coils in my strat, I had a JB8 in the bridge position and it did a similar thing...big, fat, thick and did the same sorta low-mid roar thing, but it also screamed in the upper mids a good deal more than a super D.

How are you getting along with those, by the way? I'm planning on ordering a full Robusta set (on Ken's advice) after the holidays. Are you still liking them as much, now that you've spent some time with them?

Re: Invaders...

absolutely! they're fantastic. I think maybe that I might need to play more single coil guitars (teles, gibby specials, jags, jazzmasters etc) to get a deeper appreciation for what they can do, seeing as I'm more of a humbucker guy than single coil, but this sound is how I always believed a strat should sound, so I'm quite happy :)

Re: Invaders...

coolest looking pickups ever. If they only made those pole pieces for the distortion I'd be perfectly content

Re: Invaders...

I'm surprised that you don't have good cleans when split. The Invader, in parallel, is one of my favorite clean sounds. You might try that with another push-pull.
