Iron Gear Pickups

Hello,

I was wondering if anyone here has used Iron Gear pickups. I hear they are equal to Gibson, Duncans, Dimarzio and EMGs in quality. Can anyone here confirm this, that do look to good to believe, the reviews and spec seem fair, but the test is in the using and would be good to hear any first hand experience.

Cheers

Re: Iron Gear Pickups

i was VERY impressed at the quality whey showed up in my mail box.. they just looked like they had their sh* t together

popped em in and was like.. ok i like these. not really great at making comparisons with other pups.. i just know what like.. reason I had to have several different models. only model i wasnt all that impressed with was the volts. I suspect this has much to do with my preconceived expectations and less to do with the pups though..in saying that..the volts arnt bad sounding and are definitely high output

shipping does suck if you are in the US.. 20 bucks or there about for 2 humbuckers and will take aprox 7 to 10 days to arrive

I'm looking at a Tele project, the Steel Twin II pickups shipped (Georgia, USA) would be about $90 total, which to me is not bad at all for a set.

dont have a tele but if i did. i would most likely go with them. i just think you get alot of bang for your buck with them.. if they would of had 7 string offerings, i would of went with them for that

been thinking of a blues engine/ dirty torque or rolling mills {overwound} for my stagemaster but no money atm:(

Re: Iron Gear Pickups

I think Iron Gear market excellent pups. Their HB s are exceptional value. However, for single coils and value for money and customer service, the hand wound Rose Pick ups probably have the edge if you live in the US.

Re: Iron Gear Pickups

I had a Blues Engine neck and Rolling Mill Overwound bridge in my PRS SE Bernie Marsden for a while. They turned out to be a bit dark for my tastes, which is why they were eventually replaced with a Tonerider Alnico IV Classic set..

Re: Iron Gear Pickups

Isn't the Dirty Torque like extremely JB-inspired? 16.4K, Alnico V, nickel silver baseplate, but it's got 44AWG plain enamel wire. The JB is poly, right? ... I wonder how it compares.

Re: Iron Gear Pickups

even though it's all subjective, I like that they give '4 band' EQ specs. I wish Duncan would do that

The steam hammer and metal machine look cool.

Re: Iron Gear Pickups

I have checked these out on their website and while I am a Duncan player thru and thru the Blues Engine and the Dirty Torque are exactly what I am looking for for my Les Paul.
I was getting ready to order a PG neck and a Custom bridge but now I am thinking about trying these.
Are these really as good as Duncans before I save money and end up wasting money.
I am one of them you get what you pay for kinda guys. I am very cynical about bargain stuff.

i think they are pretty good and are every bit as good as the dimazio/seymour duncan offerings.. but sound being subjective and all.. others might not like

Re: Iron Gear Pickups

I am gonna buy a set.. Worse case scenario I just put em in my next pawn shop build.
Best case I spend a little money on some good pickups. All I know is these 57 classics have got to go.
They suck and they suck bad.. I have never owned a Les Paul whre I have liked the stock pickups though.
They always lack something. Good news is I can sell them an more than pay for the Iron Gears.
Thanks for the info!

i have a rolling mills and a hot slag in this guitar.. originally, the single was going to be an iron gear but other things came up. it still will happen, just might take longer than i want.. I have plastic covers on but under those covers, THERE IS FIRE.. they bring this guitar too life which is impressive since the body is made out of ply.. as I said.. results will vary .. some might not like them.. some like them alot..:headbang: even though sound is subjective.. quality of build is not as subjective IMO. the ones i received were well packed.. pups looked clean with no imperfections..ect These pups and the other 3 models I own are top notch and are every bit the quality of a SD
