Is a CC/59 hybrid available?

Saw this mentioned in a past thread I was looking through today. Is this something available or is it custom made?

Sure... me or one of the other soldering maniacs can put one together for you!

Re: Is a CC/59 hybrid available?

never posted on any boards before, I mostly read and lurk.....I decided to make a 59/cc hybrid after emailing bachtorock. He was kinda enough to answer and it gave me the motivation to do the swap....this hybrid pup is just plain outstanding! have had 59n, 59b, CC, Seths, Jazz, etc...etc.... this is a new fave ! Notes ring clear under high gain, has a " woody" cahracter on a clean setting, have it paired right now with a alnico II pro neck on a LP Studio.....awesome pup! :)

No, Dude Man on is to something, that’s one #42 4.05k coil and one #43 7.05 coil and the last time this came up the forum crashed…go figure!!!

Re: Is a CC/59 hybrid available?

It is a distinct thing on its own. I am one of those who followed bachtorock's great thread and the description in it to do me one. Try them out might work for you. did not with me, but that is I think due to my prefs, and does not mean that you won't like it. I think I have prefs concentrated more on the extremes of that scale. Love CC's love PAFs, but contrary to my expectations did not like much the hybrid, the convex combinations of the two if you like.

I have 2. One w/ A5 and the other w/ A2. The A2 version is about as perfect as I have found so far for my PRS. I dropped the A5 in a Washburn WI66 and it seems to absolutely nail 1984 era tones in that axe.

I must've missed something.. whats the CC/59 hybrid? :?:
It is a pickup fabricated using 1-59 BRIDGE coil and 1-DUNCAN CUSTOM coil(any variation... CUSTOM/CUSTOM CUSTOM/CUSTOM 5... they are all the same coils). You can use either an Alnico 5 or an Alnico 2 magnet to fine tune it to your liking or the particular instrument. The general difference is that A2 wil have a more buttery Bass and Treble and a bit more Midrange presence.

I have found it to be the best overall pickup I have ever used and balances perfectly in output and tone with the standard/vintage model neck pickups(59/Jazz/APII/PG)

Due to the mis-matched coils you get that certain woodiness and clarity that the Antiquities possess... almost P-90ish sounding, it has the little extra push needed to get the crunchier rock tones but it stays free of the compression zone that the Customs/JB enter into... it retains the dynamics of a vintage style pickup.

The total resistance is just over 11k and I would place it on the tone chart in between the CUSTOM CUSTOM and the 59 Model which would show it as pretty much FLAT RESPONSE through the BASS MID and TREBLE which is exactly how it sounds... very EVEN... seems to really show off the natural tone of the guitar it is in.

I have had great luck with other HYBRIDS as well... for Neck pickups, the 59 mixed with either a JAZZ or APII coil sounds great! I just made a CUSTOM/JB Hybrid that is pretty cool too... next up is a Custom/Screamin Demon!

BTW... EVH was who told me about doing this... it was backstage during the Fair Warning tour and we were discussing guitars and he was saying how he loved PAF's but also loved the Duncan Custom(he had used both of those pickups in various guitars) and was torn between the 2... he got the idea to just make them both into one pickup and the result was awesome... he was atimate about using the PAF magnet because the Ceramic was too brittle sounding... this was a LONG time ago, but I remember it clearly... it's not everyday that you meet one of your guitar heros!

How are they made exactly? (I've never taken a pickup apart) If you've posted this somewhere else, just link me up.

Re: Is a CC/59 hybrid available?

I was thinking of a Custom/JB hybrid with a ceramic magnet. That might be my favourite because I like the overall tone of the Custom and the high mid spike of the JB.

Re: Is a CC/59 hybrid available?

I did a JB\Gibson 496R hybrid, but I did it backwards (JB should have been the south coil). So I'm going to try changing it.

What about a C type coil and a JB/DD type coil…Has anyone tried that?

I didn't realize you had already done it...so how does it sound?
