is a full stack really necessary?

Re: is a full stack really necessary?

Man Jeff, I can't even imagine where I'd keep all those cabs!

Seriously, as much as I can't think of a time when I felt I needed a stack for a gig, it sure is fun. Maybe someday I'll have the cash and storage space for some 4x12s and just rock the world all day long!

Well, I gotta be as real as possible... we have a huge trailer, I personally like having big setups......

..but i still only have a mic in front of one 12", regardless of how many cabinets I bring...so go figure on how many you really need...

Played a gig last week in front of about 20,000 plus, and really still never heard anything on stage.....after 26 yrs of playing, you just get used to it....no matter how big you're arsenal is...you ain't gonna hear anything outdoors!!

Really?
I'll probably be playing outdoors on a festival in august, so I need to prepare for not hearing myself on stage? How about monitors? Is it that bad?

Re: is a full stack really necessary?

Outdoors gigs are tough. If you're playing a small amp try to get an amp stand so it is pointing at your head and try to get a monitor on the floor in front of you. Depending on the volume of the show it doesn't have to be that bad, but outdoor shows are weird as far as acoustics go. I think we get so used to playing in a room that not hearing an slapback kinda freaks us out.

I've never played outdoors, tho I've played several indoor festivals ... That's interesting to note about playing outside. Time to get more cabs!

Re: is a full stack really necessary?

Yeah, but by that time I'll have a nice 4x12 to get the sound across so I'll be fine I guess.
