Is a hot trunk hot enough to discharge magnets?

I did a little roundup and realize three HBs in my fleet have really weak magnets. I got them all used so not sure what happened. The only thing I can think of is heat. I think I'll just order neodynium blocks and try to defibrilate them..

And they're not A2. Two sh-4s and an old dimarzio PAF. Duncan Designed and Gibson magnets are ridiculously powerfull in counterpart.

Hitting magnets with hammer or similar may also reduce magnetism.
So shocks like that is no good.

I've never heard that heat could discharge them. I'd love to know if it could have an effect. I don't believe that even the heat in a trunk on a hot day would be enough heat to matter, but honestly, I don't know.

Probably easier to just order new magnets than to try to re-magnetize them (there's got to be a better word than that...).

How do you know they have weak magnets? On all of the pups?

Heat in a trunk won't affect the magnets.

If you really feel they are weak, just buy new magnets.

I read above 80° degrees Celcius (176° F) will demagnetize a magnet. I don't willingly leave guitars in hot cars but it happens. About 10 years ago I thought one of my guitars were stolen. I found it after 2 weeks in the trunk of my other car I rarely use. I think some friend helped pack for a gig and put it there. When I found it, a bunch of wax had melted out of the pickup. (Melts at 65° C) So it may have seen close to 80°. Anyway if you need to charge magnets, best to order a pair of neodymium blocks on online.

Like I said, that amount of heat won't affect the magnets. But if you want to waste time trying to charge them, have at it.

By checking the pull with a small iron object, compared with other Gibson and Dimarzio pickups. Charging is not a waste of time. I had a dead pole piece a fiew years ago on a used set of Fender Custom Shop pickups. Rare earth magmets from Ebay did the trick. If you change the magnet you will most like change the sound of the pickup.

for alnico you would need temp of 300 deg C plus to start affectig them. Similarily, ceramic would need anot 250 degC to discharge. 80degC + will affect neodymium. i suspect discahrge will be from use, maybe disassembly. should be easy enough to re-charge alnico with a neodymium magnet

For less than $10, that would be my choice.

A pair of neodymium 60mm x 20mm x 10mm blocks will cost you 12$ and keep the pickup original. I don't trust aftermarket magnet sellers. They usually post zero info on the alloy, which often doesn't contain any cobalt.

Hot trunk, however, can totally melt wax if it is potted. At least here in Florida.

Same here in AZ. May through September you could probably slow cook a roast if you left it in there from sun up to sun set.
