Is it a bad idea to leave a guitar unstrung?

Hi guys,

I'm going to pull the pups out of a guitar to sell them off (check out the trading forum in the near future for a Gibson 498T and 500T - Both w/ Gold Covers). I don't have the new neck pup yet, so I wasn't going to restring it until both of my new Duncans are installed. Is this a bad idea? I don't want to throw the neck out of wack. It would probaby be sitting unstrung for about 4-5 days.

Thanks for any help!

Matt

I just restrung my Strat after sitting unstrung for about a month and a half. Doesn't seem to have hurt it at all. Its a relatively thick neck, if that makes any difference.

Its a Les Paul Studio, so I guess that qualifies. Thanks, Artie!

Leave it in the case and it should be OK.

wow cowboy dan... got me for a second there... hahaha.
well i left my acoustic unstrung for 2 months.. strung it back and it was back to normal..

Re: Is it a bad idea to leave a guitar unstrung?

Nope. Leaving it unstrung for however period of time doesn't affect it. It's a common misconception that it will throw your guitar out of whack, but it reality, it will be just fine.

I got the info from Guitar For Dummies.

I left my Strat unstrung for two years one time, and eight months another time. It's still in perfect shape.
