Is it possible to wire without any pots??

I have schecter shedevil with Invader sets
Is it possible to wire without any pots??
I'm thinking...blower switch,coil tap switch,killswitch and of course 3 way toggle

Re: Is it possible to wire without any pots??

It's certainly doable, but I see two potential issues:

  • There's no need for the blower. By definition, a blower bypasses the volume and tone controls, so a guitar with no pots would be already set to "perma-blower." Perhaps having separate switches for each pickup for coil splits, a phase reverse, or a master series/parallel would be good replacements to fill the third hole.
  • Finding 2-way toggles to fit the existing holes will be a little bit of a pain... not impossible, but not very common either. You'll probably have to find switches from outside of the guitar-modding world but I'm sure they're out there. You'll need On/On style switches for each of the options, but the number of poles will vary somewhat:
    • Kill Switch: DPDT or SPDT
    • Coil Split (both pups on one switch): DPDT
    • Coil Split (separate switches for each pup): DPDT or SPDT
    • Phase Reverse: DPDT
    • Master Series/Parallel: DPDT

I can come up with a diagram for you if you like.

I think it will be too bright or harsh. I've used 1M pots and the only magnet that doesn't sound shrill with them is Alnico 2. I imagine ceramic is a nightmare straight to the jack.

Re: Is it possible to wire without any pots??

Totally possible, but I hate the mini switches that fit in most pot holes. I'm doing the math the other way, I have a guitar with one humbucker and I need to use three knobs to fill three hole. You might want to consider something like a varitone, or switches with caps/resistors for fixed eq. It will sound different than a tone knob (and be bypassable). I'm doing this with an inductor for a notch/cocked wah.

Re: Is it possible to wire without any pots??

i think nikki sixx's bass guitars didnt have volume or tone pots but they did have on off switches

oops sorry..just realized I don't need blower switch :D
Yes please I would like to see those diagram
I'm thinking
- Coil Split (separate switches for each pup): DPDT or SPDT
- Phase Reverse: DPDT
- Master Series/Parallel: DPDT

I bought the switch at local electronics parts shop in my hometown

This is my guitar right now..vol,blower,killswitch

well not really, an invader even on blower mode is waaaaaaaaaaaay far from being shrill, even a dimebucker (yup the highest output "regular production" pickup that also happens to have the highest numbers of high end for any +15k pickup) can be used with a blower without being shrill, it depends heavily on what you run it through and the natural tone of the guitar itself.

now for what you want, in my opinion a pair of triple shot pickup rings would take care of your series/parallel/split needs, while you can have some switches for on/off phase and killswitch, i'd leave the pickup selector switch, also the lever style killswitch and use the other 2 holes for a phase switch that puts neck out of phase with bridge and a rotatory switch with a couple caps, a black ice or guitarheads underdrive (you know a passive fuzz), and a bill lawrence Q filter, that i would do personally

Re: Is it possible to wire without any pots??

Yeah, I think you'd have no problem with an Invader set with no pots. It won't be shrill at all. In fact, it might help the tone for certain kinds of music. I was wondering, though...why no pots?

Any preference for which switch goes in which hole?

Also, you said you wanted the separate coil splits, but that will mean needing TWO switches to do it... you either need to drop the phase reverse or the master series parallel OR go to one switch that will split both pups at once.

No problem. I've done guitars and basses with switches only - no pots. I actually prefer no pots on my own axes.

okay..I changed my mind..I need the vol pot to play clean by roll down the vol pot:D
so it left 2 holes
I really love the blower switch..from clean to dirty sound with one switch without tapping any pedals
hmmm this is it..vol pot, blower switch, coil tap for both pups at once
how is the diagram?I once tried..if the coil tap is on then I turned the blower switch on..It didn't go full bridge humbucker..it was split bridge humbucker

so so sorry because I changed my mind

Okay, jacksen... no more mind changing!

Lol... I'm coming down with a cold, and I fell asleep last night just after finishing up your initial project. I just needed to color it after work tonight and we'd be all set...

...BUT THEN YOU CHANGED YOUR MIND!!

So back to the drawing board I went. I was intrigued by your comment about the bridge pickup staying split when you engaged the blower, and although it was a little unclear I assumed that you wanted the bridge pickup to lose the split with the blower engaged, so that's how I designed it. By the way, if you want BOTH pickups to bypass the split when using the blower, it can be done but you would need to get a 4PDT switch.

Anyway, here it is!

Also, just because I had already done the hard part, here's the original plan... just in case you decide to change your mind back! [emoji12]

I also bought an on off on 4pdt switch on my way home
I really need to bypass the split when using blower, they didn't have on off 4pdt switch
If you could help me..again with the wiring :D still with vol pot, coil tap, blower
Thank you so so so much Sir

Bad news, jacksen... the 3-way on/off/on just isn't going to work. You really just need a 2-way to get the job done I'm afraid. See about returning the on/off/on switch and check into maybe purchasing a 2-way 4PDT Switch online... there are a ton of places that sell them.

In the meantime, I'll see if I can crank out a diagram for how to wire it in the next few days.

Sorry I can't tell you what you want to hear!

Ohh I see,any other ways I can use the 3 way 4pdt? It doesn't have to coil tap + humbucker blower switch. Maybe You can suggest other mods I can use
I live in small town in Indonesia, I have to order it outside Indonesia. Takes some time

Again..thank you so much Sir
