is it worth it?

Looking for Real Life
well, my '99 MIM strat is a little TOO honkey & bright. And not enough sustain. I think it's due to the bathtub routes & maple fretboard. I'm considering either selling it or getting a regular routed body & a rosewood fretboard, will this change the sound quite a bit, or will it always be this bright & honkey?

for all those curious, if i do keep it, it'll be hsh with 2 pearly gates & a texas hot or similar. feel free to reccomend a pickup that's still srvish but works better with duncans

also, it's a '99, so what year body/necks should be compatable? Like if i went thru ebay to get a new neck, then sold the old one, then got a new body, then sold the old one

Re: is it worth it?

FWIW, as many here will attest, the sound loss from a swimming pool route is very negligable.

+1

Also, it seems to me that a new body and neck from a reputable supplier (e.g., Warmoth or USACG) won't be much cheaper than a new guitar.

Re: is it worth it?

well, my plan was to get a new body, then sell the old one, then get a new neck, & sell the old one, but it'll prolly be cheaper for a new guitar

any of them come regular routed & hsh these days? preferably a cheap one, i can prolly get about 250 max outta my guitar

Re: is it worth it?

well, routing doesn't matter, i can get it routed for humbuckers for $40

also, the strat's a lot quieter than my tele, is this normal?
