Hi, I have a Ibanez GRG 170 DX (H-S-H), Basswood body.

I think in put a JB in the bridge and Alnico II Pro in the neck, is this a good combination?

I play Classic Rock and Hard Rock.

:thanks:

I've never tried that exact combo in a guitar but I do own both those pickups and use them for hard rock and metal and I'd say those two would work great together.

Thanks for the help man, I think that someone that uses those pickups with the same wood (basswood) must already know about the sound.

What's the wood of your guitar?

Thanks.

I wouldn't use that combination. The bridge will be very bright and the neck very dark. In a live setting it would make one pickup useless.

I don't change the pickup in the middle of music, only music by music. My english isn't good, what are you saw in "Very Dark or Bright"? The diference of the volume of the sound or the diference of the type of sound produced by the pickups?

If you switch pickups between songs you will have to adjust everything. They may balance in volume but in tone you will set up the JB with your amp and have great settings for that pickup but when you change to the Alnico II it will be very dark, with a lot of bass and lacking in treble.

I can't see it. I have the JB and A2P in different guitars, but they're similar (both Jackson superstrats) and I don't think there'd be any problem.
My Jackson JDR-94 has the A2P in the neck, with a Bill Lawrence USA 500XL in the bridge! It works just fine.

Anyway some people like less treble in their neck pickup ( Dave Murray?)

I like this. For me (I'm just a beginner) it turn the guitar more versatile for a various types of music. Anyway, this pickups work good in a basswood guitar?

Re: Is JB + Alnico II Pro a good combination?

Basswood is a wood that to me, feels like alder (balanced sound) but with more midrange. But since it's still in the middle of everything I wouldn't worry too much about the wood. Just don't put into it any of the pickups that have a LOT of midrange. Maybe not a custom custom!

I have a basswood strat and I use an Alnico II Pro bridge single coil, and it has nice, thick midrange and I think it helps to make my strat sound more balanced, because it was a bit thin sounding before. So you could probably have a nice sound with the A2 Pro neck pickup in your guitar.

I had the AP2n/JB combo for a while in my mahogany Hamer. They get along very well together. They both have a plump midrange and good sparkle to the highs and both just love Marshall style amps.

Hi people, I put this combination in my guitar, and the only thing that I can say is these are awesome!

I put the tone control in the amp in this form:

Bass: 7
Middle: 3
Treble: 5

The sound of A2P is very good for clean speacially on Classic Rock and Blues and good on distortion (more dark that the JB, very good in some situations and just regular in other situations). The JB is awesome for Hard Rock and I also like this for Classic Rock and Blues with a Push Pull.

Thanks for all the help and sorry for grammar erros, my english is very bad :S
