Re: Is the EVH pickup a scam?
i think donkey you are wrong, its not a scam, if it was named something else then it would not change the price, nor would it male the pickup any less popular. im sure you would have nothing to complain about if it was called the 78, and the price wouldent bother you, in the end if you dont like the price dont buy it. a mesa boogie dual rect costs twice as much as a marshall tsl here in the uk (sometimes more than 2 times as much) but that doesnt stop people buying the mesa if thats the sound they like.
i paid the equivelant of $152 for my full shred here in the uk is that a scam? i think it was worth every bit as much as i paid for it even though i paid a lot more than people in the Us would, because its a good sounding pickup, and also on the subject of EVH i bought a Peavey 5150, but i dont think anyone including myself who bought a 5150 thought, yay im gonna sound like eddie van halen, also i have an ibanez jem, but i didnt ever think, yay i can be steve vai now, i dont happen to like the Evo pickups in the jem and if i found the right pickup for an over the odds price then its still worth it, if its the right pickup.
i think if seymour duncan wanted to make money out of scamming people into thinking that the EVH was the eddie van halen pickup, to make money they would have put it as a production pickup quite some time ago.
