FretFire said:Korina is pretty similar to mahogany from what I hear.
iceman79 said:Yeah, the Epi Explorer is cool little guitar. I'd always wanted an Ibanez Korina Destroyer like EVH, but I could never find one for sale and when I did it was too expensive, so when i found this Epi the price was right and it sounded great (before I changed the bridge pup). The guy I bought it from installed a real Gibson HB, but I wanted something hotter.
the guy who invented fire said:close...but there is a good difference
mrid said:Confirm/Deny: Korina is brighter than mahogany.
This is what I've heard...
the guy who invented fire said:It is a tad brighter but it also has a better bottom...here is the deal, and I know Im about to step on ALOT of toes...All the Epiphone explorers and V are bleached Mahogany that is then stained to look like Korina or white Limba...I have a 1983 Moderne that is real limba wood and the tonal difference is night and day...I hate to sound like a snob but trust me on this... Look at this..."Korina" is Gibsons trade name for the FINISH, not the wood...Gibson will tell you all day long that the Epi stuff is Korina and they are right it is the same honey colour that The Gibsons are made out of...not once will Gibson/Epiphone tell you that the Epi Explorers and V and the Epi Moderne are Limba...because it would be a lie...So to answer your question mrid...LIMBA is a tad brighter than mahogany and has a stronger bass responce...Korina is a pretty finish.

theodie said:I am more or less against putting an Invader in a guitar with a 24.75 scale. Usually those guitars are made with Mahongany or something like it so with the invader you are almost asking for a dark and muddy sound with those wood types and that scale. I would go and try a Dimarzio super Distortion. I have always been a fan of that pickup.
