Re: Is the Slash Signiature head the same as a Jubilee?
In 1987, I freaked out when I saw the silver stacks at local music stores. For the first time, there was actually a Marshall with tons of gain on tap, and it looked cooler than black. I was 17, and sold my Risson and Carvin heads, then borrowed another $200, just so I could get the 2555 100W head. I remember begging the salesman to let me have it cheap, and since I was a kid with cash, he let me have it for $865 even. I used it from 87-92, playing Hollywood clubs, then sold it like a moron for $650. I always kicked myself for that, because it was a really good sounding amp.
Fast forward to 2001, and I came across a local ad for a Silver Fullstack in mint condition for $1500 OBO. I drove 100 miles out into the California desert, not knowing if I was gonna get jacked or find the mint stack. Luckily, some old hippie that works on the California aquaduct had that fullstack sitting in his closet since 88. LOL He took $1400, and I was stoked! This one was the 50W 2550 head and 2 matching cabs, with covers, manual, and Jubilee bumper sticker. WHAT A SCORE!
I'll likely keep the amp as a collectible, but it's tubed up with JJ E-34L's and Sovtek LPS pre tubes, and it sounds amazing. It's a very crunchy highgain sound like old Metallica or Ozzy, so it's not my primary amp these days, but I still love it. Overall, the Bogner smokes it, but they're two different amps. I'll always have a place in my heart for Jubilees, Slash's, and 88 black designer series (black Jubilees). As far as I know, they're all the same, but I think Slash uses both EL-34's and KT-88's in his personal Jubilees.
